- Vince LiCata is a faculty member in Biological Sciences and Chemistry at Louisiana State University (LSU). His laboratory studies protein-ligand interactions, protein folding, and biothermodynamics. He also writes plays that have been produced in a number of different US cities, and, oddly enough, in Thailand.

A recent paper from our lab discusses how DNA polymerase from E. coli can discriminate between DNA replication and DNA repair substrates, while the "same" polymerase from Thermus aquaticus sees both types of DNA substrates as equal.

A physicist friend of mine recently lent me a copy of Harry Frankfurt's "On Bullshit", which purports to be the only ever philosophical analysis of "bullshit," when it quite clearly seems to be a complete piece of bullshit itself.

What I've found most interesting about the arsenic-bacteria/DNA story is that there seem to be several parallel and barely intersecting universes in play here: 1) the scientific literature, 2) the traditional media, and 3) the blogosphere.
