The Festival Celebrates Women's History Month!

This month, join the USA Science & Engineering Festival and the rest of the nation in celebrating Women's History Month, paying tribute to generations of women around the world whose contributions to numerous fields and endeavors -- including those in science, technology, engineering and mathematics -- have proven invaluable to society.

The national theme of Women's History Month this year is "Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment," and we invite you to commemorate such innovators in two ways with the Festival. First, visit the Festival's Role Models in Science & Engineering website to learn more about the lives and contributions of key women in STEM throughout history, such as mathematicians Hypatia and Ada Byron, physician Virginia Apgar, inventors Ruth Rogan Benerito and Stephanie Kwolek, oceanographer Sylvia Earle, Nobel Prize recipient Carol Greider, primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall, robotics engineer Ayanna Howard, astronauts Mae Jemison and Sally Ride and molecular biologist Rosalind Franklin.

Secondly, don't miss the opportunity to actually meet and interact with some of the most prominent female heroines and leaders in STEM this April in Washington, D.C. at the Festival's X-STEM Extreme STEM Symposium presented by Northrop Grumman Foundation and MedImmune.

Speakers will include such trailblazers as: renowned MIT bioengineer Angela Belcher Ph.D.; astronomer Blake Bullock; whale researcher Nan Hauser, Ph.D; storm chaser Karen Kosiba, Ph.D.; Melina Bellows, executive of National Geographic's Books, Kids and Family divisions; former NASA astronaut Kathryn Thornton, Ph.D.; Anousheh Ansari, the first female private space explorer; and evolutionary biologist Marlene Zuk, Ph.D.
