Sigur Ros

Recently I've been lamenting that none of my friends, including my boyfriend, will listen to the Icelandic band Sigur Ros - an eclectic, idiosyncratic group I adore. Although I've noticed Sigur Ros' music infiltrating the mainstream recently, routinely appearing in commercials and soundtracks, surprisingly few Americans seem to know who they are. It's a shame - especially because their videos are incredible. This is what music video should be, but (as far as I'm concerned) never really was. Glosoli and Hoppipolla are so perfectly crafted of universal human emotions - daring, triumph, love, mischief - they don't require any translation at all.

Loved them since "()" came out. The new album is great!

Heck, I like Sigur Ros a lot. I even saw them back around 2002 playing Radio City Music Hall. Good show, although the kiddies there didn't realize that the whole "play the electric guitar with the violin bow" thing dates back at least to the 1960s and Jimmy Page with the Yardbirds and then later Led Zeppelin...

Plus the ultimate endorsement, a reference in a comic strip.

I've been a longtime fan, and a thing I've found most impressive is the way they support their fans. Check their website here to see what I mean. Many free downloads of music and videos. The new song/video "gobbledigook" is teh bomb; something of a new sound for them, and a bit controversial [musically LOL] among old-time fans, but if your new to the group it really goes to show their range and inventiveness.

if you like them and haven't seen Heima yet, it would be a nice way to spend these few free days following. it's worthing your time. trailer here: http://www.heima.co.uk/video/

i would be glad if they infiltrate the "mainstream". i'd really like my fellow citizens to watch hoppipolla and then get out on the streets and be happy. but it "goes main" only in a minor stream flowing in some other muddy waters..
