There WILL be DOJ torture investigations ...

You can bank on it, I think. Eric Holder has apparently been moving in that direction, and JD officials were a bit put off on hearing Rahn Emanuel's comments to the contrary. Holder may name an outside counsel to investigate torture.

Wow, I really hope so. And I hope it's not just a slap on the wrist type of thing, either. We need to show the country and the world that we are serious about human rights and that we hold rights violators accountable. Otherwise, we have lost all credibility on the subject.

I wrote Senator Whitehouse regarding this. I told him the rule of law must be observed and those who advocated torture as well as warrantless wiretaps need to answer to the law.

This is going to have to get ugly, before it can be satisfactorily dealt with. I can't envision the global community not dealing with it. Thus are the hard lessons of humanity.

Agreed, but it'll get even more ugly if it's not solved by Obama's administration itself before international courts get involved.

If only enough Republicans realised that this is absolutely necessary for their own party to emerge from the darkness...

I can't help but notice that the usual right-wing pundits are completely passing up on a wonderful opportunity to level some real, legitimate criticism at Obama. Instead, they seem to be far more interested in defending the Bush administration's torture harsh interrogation policies. I'm not so sure the Republicans can be salvaged anymore.
