There WILL be DOJ torture investigations ...

You can bank on it, I think. Eric Holder has apparently been moving in that direction, and JD officials were a bit put off on hearing Rahn Emanuel's comments to the contrary. Holder may name an outside counsel to investigate torture.

This is coming from Newsweek via Rachel Maddow.

I'm becoming more enthusiatic about Eric Holder as Attorney General. It's nice to see some clarity about waterboarding--that is, partial drowning interrogation. From Steve Benen: The exchange was helpful in learning about both the senator and the nominee. [Republican Senator] Cornyn wanted Holder…
Have you noticed that Rachel Maddow, the newly en-scheduled MSNBC Cable News Show host, has a lot of interesting and rather endearing mannerisms of speech and presentation? Of course you have. But have you also noticed that Rachel also has a large and growing influence on the manersisms of others…
Chris Matthews, from last night's Hardball. His guest was talk radio host Racheal Maddow. MADDOW: Well, it's two sides of the same coin, as far as I can tell. And the real substantive story here is that almost all of the Republican candidates have argued against the separation of church and…
Unfortunately, it's Rachel Maddow. I say unfortunately not because I dislike Rachel (I don't), but because it would be really, really, really nice if the making sense thing was coming from one of our elected officials. I'll slap the clip up on this blog, with some of the juicier quotes, as soon…

Wow, I really hope so. And I hope it's not just a slap on the wrist type of thing, either. We need to show the country and the world that we are serious about human rights and that we hold rights violators accountable. Otherwise, we have lost all credibility on the subject.

I wrote Senator Whitehouse regarding this. I told him the rule of law must be observed and those who advocated torture as well as warrantless wiretaps need to answer to the law.

This is going to have to get ugly, before it can be satisfactorily dealt with. I can't envision the global community not dealing with it. Thus are the hard lessons of humanity.

This is going to have to get ugly, before it can be satisfactorily dealt with.

Agreed, but it'll get even more ugly if it's not solved by Obama's administration itself before international courts get involved.

If only enough Republicans realised that this is absolutely necessary for their own party to emerge from the darkness...

I can't help but notice that the usual right-wing pundits are completely passing up on a wonderful opportunity to level some real, legitimate criticism at Obama. Instead, they seem to be far more interested in defending the Bush administration's torture harsh interrogation policies. I'm not so sure the Republicans can be salvaged anymore.
