This barking dog is not very smart. But it could make a good Republican. The only thing harder to understand than Michele Bachmann is the Republican Party. Bachmann is hard to understand in this way: How can a person with her mind be an elected member of congress?!?!??? The Republican party is hard to understand in this way: How can a party that is trying to become more rather than less relevant keep putting Michele Bachmann on the podium in places like the National Party Convention and, most recently, at CEPAC??!?!?!? ~ A timely repost ~ I can't explain any of this, but I can at…
I am represented in the US House of Representatives by Erik Paulsen. I've not heard much from Erik since his election two years ago because he doesn't tell us much. But I don't need to hear from him, really, because he is, for all intents and purposes, a clone of Michele Bachmann, the nutbag who represents the yahoos of the district next to mine. As I've previously blogged (and I'm reposting this later today) Erik Paulsen votes in lockstep with Michele Bachmann, differing only in trivial ways. So, if I want to know how the guy who represents me in the House is doing, and what he is up to, I…
Bones once said "I don't like Sheriffs. They're elected. It's a popularity contest, not based on qualifications for the job," or words to that effect. But the candidates for Anoka County Sheriff are highly qualified law enforcement professionals. The job of Sheriff for Anoka County, Minnesota is open, and we have two candidates running this year. They are Lieutenant Ron Bouley of Ramsey and Captain Jim Stuart of Andover, both of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Which one should I vote for? Your comments (below) will be welcome, and they could affect my vote or the Anoka county…
Got your attention? Good. Have a look at this: Libertarians are generally characterized by (misplaced) arrogance. Liberals are generally characterized by...well, I don't actually know, but I'm sure I'll get suggestions. Conservatives are generally characterized by fear. It informs all their policies.... Read the rest here, at "A Movement of Cowards." It is an excellent discussion of the way fear motivates. Fear motivates us all at times and to varying extent, but it mainly works on the cowards. Like Rand Paul and his head stomper, and Michele Bachmann and her ilk in the House.
This comes from a Daguerreotype taken by Daguerre himself in 1838. It is probably a picture of a man (on the left) getting his shoe shined by a shoe shiner (in the right, less distinct). The image would have been exposed for about ten minutes, so the crowds wandering around on the street, carriages, etc. would be visible in this photograph as nothing other than a virtually undetectable fog as the occasional photon-chemical interaction would occur. To see the original photograph, of the Boulevard du Temple in Paris, and learn more about this photo, visit The Hokumburg Goombah.
It turns out that the "land hurricane" (technically, a super storm, aka extra tropical cyclone or bomb cyclone) may have been the biggest (most energetic) storm hisorically recorded for the region. Of particular interest is the pressure record (the ultimate measure for a storm) but also, the number of tornadoes and the damage due to winds was also impressive. And, there are interesting tropical things going on in the Atlantic Ocean. Is this all caused by Global Warming? Yes, probably. Gone are the days when the knee-jerk reaction must be "well, no, no one storm can be attributed to bla…
It was like a bad dream or something ... Funny how she knew about the milk.
Well, actually, who cares about the smile. It's the ESSAY that should sway you. Or, just do me a favor, go here, and click on "Christie Wilcox." This all about getting Nerdy Christie a 10K college scholarship. She's close. YOU can make it happen! Thank you very much, that is all.
The election is going to be close. It is quite possible that the Republicans will take the Senate. There is no way the Democratic caucus will obtain a super majority. I am especially embarrassed by Wisconsin. Here are the details ... At present the US Senate has 59 members who are either Democrats or caucus with the Democrats, and 41 members who are Republicans or caucus with Republicans. Some of the 59 Democratic members are DINOs (Democrats in name only, also called Red Dog Democrats) who often vote with Republicans. If the Democratic caucus were to pick up one more seat, and the same…
One possibility would be to get stinking drunk, then later, find her and her male companion and run them over with your car. At this point, we can't be sure that this is what happened, but the circumstantial evidence suggests that this may have been the nature of Kandyce Stoffel's tragic death Monday in Minneapolis. Kandyce was a student at UMN, about to graduate, and the driver, John Robert Peterson, a high school tennis coach. One other person was hurt in the incident. The only reason I even know about this is because I've been doing something unusual (for me ... these days) ...…
The following composite image represents what the Tea Party stands for. It is the image of the Libertarian movement, like it or not. It is what today's Republican Party stands for. It is what you get if you don't vote next Tuesday. Top: Rand Paul (right) and one of his campaign workers, Tim Profitt. Bottom: Tim Profitt stomping the head of a woman who disagrees with Rand Paul. It is what you get if you don't vote next Tuesday. If you are in Minnesota, here is how to find your polling place. Elsewhere, there are similar resources. This is not hard .
I think we are having a land hurricane here in Minnesota. The tree in front of my daughter's other house (her mom's place) that was topped by a tornado the week after we bought it has lost a big dead branch, a bunch of firs at the junction of 10 and 35W are down, a colleague of my wife lost a fence, traffic lights have been knocked out on University in Blaine, Monica lost power in the cities last night, all sorts of things like that happening as we experience a steady drum of 35 mph winds with gusts reaching 80 now and then, but more commonly, about 55 mph. The precip is horizontal, but it…
Rand Paul's henchman, alleged assailant Tim Profitt ("The Stomper") has been summoned before a judge on assault charges . Profitt has started whining about his safety being in danger and claims to have received numerous death threats after he and his buddies wrestled an unarmed woman to the ground and stomped on her at a political rally because they did not like her opinion. He now claims that the reason that he stomped the victim, political activist and 90 pound weakling Lauren Valle, on the head is because he has a bad back and could not bend down, presumably to punch her on the head. The…
The man who stomped on the head of a woman at a Rand Paul campaign event has been identified, and it is a person close to Paul and involved in the campaign. He was one of several campaign workers who seemingly premeditated the attack, part of which was recently caught on videotape. Assailant Tim Profitt, who works for Rand Paul, and Rand Paul. Here are more details, from the woman who was wrestled to the ground and stomped on by Tim Profitt, who has been identified as one of Paul's local campaign coordinators (a volunteer position). These are the words of the stompee herself, Lauren Valle…
The following videos are freaky and disturbing in many ways. What a dick. But wait, there's more: I'm not a big fan of "animal rights groups" (to say the least) in part because I see hypocrisy and muddled thinking whenever I look in their direction. But this is, indeed, a great example of very poor behavior. This guy Troy should be released in the woods and hunted down by a real bear, don't you think? I wonder if the dickless NASCAR-symp Country Western loving yahoos defend this. I mean, after all, a bear was killed. That's a good thing, right? I'll have to check out this Minnesota…
In principle, if not in detail: Lillian McEwen was that woman. At the time, she was on good terms with Thomas. The former assistant U.S. attorney and Senate Judiciary Committee counsel had dated him for years, even attending a March 1985 White House state dinner as his guest. She had worked on the Hill and was wary of entering the political cauldron of the hearings. She was never asked to testify, as then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.), who headed the committee, limited witnesses to women who had a "professional relationship" with Thomas. Now, she says that Thomas often said inappropriate things…
I have looked at the records, statements, and endorsements of the two candidates running for the open Anoka County Attorney's office, to determine which I should support and, indeed, endorse on this blog. And I'm stuck. It is a hard decision because both candidates have impressive backgrounds. Of the two candidates, Brad Johnson of Coon Rapids (currenly an assistant Hennepin County Attorney) and Tony Palumbo of Blaine (an assistant Anoka County Attorney) both have diverse and impressive experience as prosecutors. Johnson is the lead in the complex crimes unit for Hennepin County, though…
