Fixing the 70,000 highway bridges rated no safer than the one that just fell down equals the budget for one year spent defending our overseas oil suppliers in Iraq.

The relatively poor improvements in US road death rates suggest NHTSA's efforts have focused largely on factors of minimal effective relevance to vehicular safety performance. NHTSA's regulatory priorities and protocols have had a much stronger effect on the economic and selection aspects of the US vehicle market ....
