aaaaaaaand.... We're Back!

It's been a very long month or so. Family matters of various sorts have kept me running around through most of the Eastern Seaboard for the last several weeks. Fortunately, things have finally started to settle down.

We've got pretty much everything unpacked in our new digs in family housing at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. It's the first time - at least to my knowledge - that I've lived somewhere named after a Confederate, but I'm drawing some comfort from the knowledge that at least one very well-known liberal spent some time living here.

Over the next few days, I'll start catching up on various things that I've had on hold here. I'll be posting regularly, and my posting frequency should get a real boost in another week or so, as the kids head back to school.

More like this

The New York Times, its finger squarely on the pulse of SF as always, has a very nice profile of Vernor Vinge.
I am well aware that lately there have been several horrifying blog posts here, of a nature that might make a rational liberal want to hide under her bed or move to Scandinavia or something.
I usually divide my evenings between the computer and a book, interspersed with the occasional fondle-raid on my wife. Here are a few recommended reads from the past year.
Books recently removed from the queue. "Mathematicians in Love" by Rudy Rucker, "An Engine, Not a Camera: How Financial Models Shape Markets" by Donald Mackenzie, "Financial Calculus : An Introduction to Derivative Pricing" by Martin Baxter and Andrew Rennie.

Hurray! Congrats on the move and welcome back :-)

About damned time! (Welcome back, Mike!)
