Evangelicals are getting worried: all their pastors are turning gay. Who's to blame? Well, some might argue that genes play a role, and that homosexuality is really a biological behavior. But that would be utterly foolish. It turns out that the real problem is soy. According to Jim Rutz, tofu turns you gay:
There's a slow poison out there that's severely damaging our children and threatening to tear apart our culture. The ironic part is, it's a "health food," one of our most popular.
The dangerous food I'm speaking of is soy. Soybean products are feminizing, and they're all over the place. You can hardly escape them anymore.
Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality. That's why most of the medical (not socio-spiritual) blame for today's rise in homosexuality must fall upon the rise in soy formula and other soy products. (Most babies are bottle-fed during some part of their infancy, and one-fourth of them are getting soy milk!) Homosexuals often argue that their homosexuality is inborn because "I can't remember a time when I wasn't homosexual." No, homosexuality is always deviant. But now many of them can truthfully say that they can't remember a time when excess estrogen wasn't influencing them.
You can't make this shit up. What I find most interesting is that Rutz is clearly interested in some sort of scientific explanation for homosexuality. In other words, he's not arguing that it's just a sin of sexual temptation. And yet, he's completely unable to analyze the scientific facts, or construct a meaningful scientific theory. Soy does contain isoflavones, which can interfere with the action of estrogen. However, there is absolutely no evidence that isoflavones cause homosexuality, or reduce penis size, or do anything else that Rutz warns about.
PS. PZ beat me to the punch.
There can't be many straws left, because he's grasping for them something feirce. Perhaps this is part of the overall right-wing meltdown post-election.
This explains a lot. My identical twin had severe allergies growing up. He was allergic to wheat, corn, milk and a multitude of other things. Soy was one of the things he could eat. And now that explains why one of us is gay and the other straight....
Oh wait, he's the one who ate a lot of soy and he's also the one who didn't turn out to be gay.
I'm confused. Your identical twin had severe allergies and you didn't? How'd that happen, assuming you grew up in the same environment?
Indentical genetics and similar environment - not the same. Even in the womb the environment differs. His allergies appeared earlier - before puberty. Mine appeared later - after puberty. Please remember that genetics and environment work together on many differences, also that identical twins similarities are related to when the ovum splits (2nd to 8th day). Differences could have happened in the womb in our nutrition and our exposure to DES (the drug my mother was given to prevent miscarriages). Yes, we grew up together and still that doesn't mean we had the same environmental factors.
Is this guy really trying to say that soy makes you gay??? I hate soy but I am a woman who has always loved women. Maybe it's in dairy products too! Or it could be all of the chips and salsa I love to eat!
