A New Blog

I was reading Timothy Sandefur's blog and saw a thank you to another blog, No Blog Here, that has begun linking to him. Followed the link and found out that this same person is linking to me as well, along with Jon Rowe, Will Wilkinson and Crooked Timber. And he's from Michigan, even if he is a *spit* Wolverine. Seems like a good guy. Philosophy grad and active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters - gotta love that. So in honor of his excellent taste in blogs (the other 4 are great choices and regular stops of mine as well), I hereby command you all to go forth and visit his blog as well.

A bit of an argument has erupted among my closest blog neighbors over the question of gay marriage and polygamy. It began with Jon Rowe's post last month in which he argued that the arguments for gay marriage do not necessarily lead logically to the acceptance of polygamous marriages. Jon was not…
I got to spend yesterday with one of my longtime readers, Dan Ray, a law professor from my home state. We went to the Michigan-Iowa football game, had a nice meal and many hours of interesting conversation. One of the things we talked about was how this blog has sort of organically turned into a…
In the latest entry of his ongoing Libertarian Bookworm series, Timothy Sandefur writes about H.L. Mencken, in my opinion the finest essayist in American history and probably my single favorite writer, period. He mentions a new biography of Mencken written by Terry Teachout, which I had not heard…
My many thanks to Jon Rowe and Timothy Sandefur for taking the time to answer my inquiry about Leo Strauss. After seeing multiple references to Leo Strauss, the late and famous political philosopher from UChicago, I became interested in his work and those he influenced. I knew that both of them had…

Liz Ditz,

It just depends where you are from. We country Hoosiers spell it "hucktooey"

'cough'

LOL at all three comments. I don't really have anything against U of M, Aaron, I just have to make rude comments under my alumni contract with MSU. I've spent quite a bit of time in Ann Arbor, having coached there for a couple summers at debate institute. I still miss Cottage Inn pizza.

"I still miss Cottage Inn pizza."

So c'mon back over. I'll treat. As a faculty member at Eastern, I too am contractually obliged to say mean things about U of M. It's really a shame, since they have such a nice football stadium.

Dan, I fully intend to take you up on that offer someday. I really do need to get down to Ann Arbor sometime soon to see my old friend Aaron that I mentioned last week as well. Tomorrow I'm heading to MSU to visit some old friends from debate that I haven't seen in over a decade, then up to Grand Rapids to have dinner with one of my old comedian buddies that I only get to see once or twice a year when he performs in the area. It's like old reunion week for me, which I'm excited about.

If a grad student with only familial connection to the law is invited, I offer the first pitcher of Bells seasonal at Ashley's.

I'm not familiar with Ashley's, but it's been several years since I've spent any time in Ann Arbor. Maybe we'll have to get a blogger meet-and-greet down there some time. The brilliant Cosma Shalizi is at UofM as well, I'm sure we could talk him into tagging along too.

Am I invited too?

LOL. Of course you are. But if you were up here, I'm afraid I'd be far too busy to go to Ann Arbor anyway. :)
