Google Ads

You might notice that I now have a few small google ads in the left sidebar. I'm not looking to make real money with my blog, but I figured with readership growing, why not see if I can at least cover the costs of the space and bandwidth? I'm also looking into an Amazon associate arrangement. Since I frequently reference books, I may as well get a little something if someone clicks on a link and buys one of them. Ain't capitalism grand?

More like this

Part six.  It is ironic, isn't it, that this game is being broadcast in High Definition, and it is raining, and the rain makes the picture indistinct.  I've been skeptical of the value of High Definition TV.  Seems like a waste of bandwidth.  Did it ever
A while back I complained about an installation misadventure I had when I got Comcast service hooked up to my new abode.
I'd like to start with a quick apology. Sorry that both the abstract algebra and the new game theory posts have been moving so slowly. I've been a bit overwhelmed lately with things that need doing right away, and

Does Google let you mention that you have the ads, or that you get a small fee if they're clicked?

And have you been following the controversy over their accuracy, as chronicled recently in WSJ?

Well, regardless, I hope they bring down your costs.

They are not obtrusive. I certainly hope you do well with it, because I appreciate the effort that has to go into an enterprise like this.

I guess we better click on some a few times just to move those pennies your way. It takes a very long time to generate a flow from them, but daily attendance on site helps hugely.

Uh, Ed......?
Have you noticed that some of the ads are for creationist organizations? This leaves the (incorrect, as I understand your writings) impression that you support their ideas.

I think it's rather odd that one of the Googlized links is for a creationist regurge-a-quote website.

I find creationist sites highly amusing. I'm going to click on all of them, take a look, find a few things to laugh at, and send money from them to Ed. What fun!

One of the ironies of internet advertising is that it is generally keyword targeted. So yes, many of the ads will in fact be triggered by "evolution" and show creationist sites. Just as many blog services, like Blogspot, who use google ads to make money often end up advertising their competitors. If anyone thinks that this means I'm advocating creationism, they're frankly not bright enough to be here in the first place and their loss will hardly be a tragedy.

I like the way the ads seem to have Ed pigeonholed as a conservative....one of my favorite things about this blog is that Ed isn't a man to be tied to an ideology when it deviates from his clear and basic sense of fairness. Ed's neither a liberal *nor* a conservative (not in the bastardized sense these terms get used nowadays, anyway), and that's what helps make this a necessary daily read.

Thank you for the kind words Jillian:-)

I have to chuckle at the ads my blog generates. I have more ads for blue jeans than anything else--and I hardly ever wear blue jeans!

I still haven't gotten any revenue from mine, though. But then, I don't have a large readership.

Jean.

That's just fine.
