Texas Governor Rick Perry, signing two pieces of legislation on Sunday at a church:
During the 1 1/2-hour program, Perry also signed a resolution to amend the Texas Constitution by banning same-sex marriages."Texans have made a decision about marriage and if there is some other state that has a more lenient view than Texas then maybe that's a better place for them to live," Perry said.
Yeah, you don't want none of them uppity homos in Texas. The best part was that he was accompanied by Pastor Rod Parsley, an Ohio televangelist who is great fun to watch. About 10 years ago, I was watching his show and stopped dead in my tracks as he said this:
"How do I know that the Bible is the word of God? Because it's the only book that claims to be the word of God. So I don't need the Koran....I don't need the book of Mormon...."
And no, I'm not making that up.

I've written before about Rod Parsley, a TV preacher I started watching long before he became such a powerful figure in the religious right. I've written about watching his show one night and seeing him say the following mind-numbing statement:

Yes folks, Pat Robertson has once again been confabbing with God and he has reported on the 700 Club that God has told him that Bush will win the 2004 election easily:
"I think George Bush is going to win in a walk. I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election…
Debra Saunders, in today's Chronicle, decries Intolerance 2009. She is trying to claim that it is hypocritical for groups seeking gay equality to oppose Rick Warren while supporting Obama. Both oppose gay marriage, you see. That Obama opposed Prop. 8 and has repeatedly stated his desire to see…
This won't be news to anyone from Texas, but our governor, Republican Rick Perry, is a walking disaster. From The Dallas Morning News:
SAN ANTONIO - Gov. Rick Perry, after a God and country sermon attended by dozens of political candidates Sunday, said that he agreed with the minister that non-…
He did not say that ... ?
Hmm, I'm not sure I understand the reference to George Wallace. I was stationed at Craig AFB in Selma, AL when MLK was there marching across the same Edmund Pettus Bridge that I took to get back and forth to work everyday. I don't recall Gov. Wallace ever suggesting that Negroes who didn't like segregation should high tail it out of Alabama. Am I missing something here? BW
Perry's last comment reminds me of "Kissing Hank's Ass."
