Funny Moment in Alito Hearing

I just happened to catch this last night. When Sen. Lindsey Graham began his questioning of Alito, he joked about Alito having said he didn't recall something by saying something to the effect of, "We can only hope that if we come before you in court you'll be as gracious in accepting our lack of recollection of any involvement with Jack Abramoff." That's not an exact quote, but it's the gist of the joke. And it got quite a laugh.

More like this

Ilya Somin of the Cato Institute has a report on Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito noting that he has a decidedly libertarian streak in many of his rulings. Somin writes:
Blue Mass Group has an interesting interview with Kate Pringle, a former clerk for Samuel Alito as well as for Stephen Breyer and Sandra Day O'Connor (how's that for a resume?).
I must be really predictable in what I write about. For the second time this week, someone emailed me a link to an article that I already had open on my screen with the intention of writing about.
Yesterday I highlighted the absurdities of Sen. Cornyn's opening remarks about Judge Alito's nomination. Today I think I'll point the spotlight at Sen. Kennedy on the other side of the aisle.

Alito does seem to have major memory issues, he doesn't recall a hell of a lot at all. A good reason not to confirm him is his lack of recollection in a great number of things, my geuss is either he's senile or smoking dope. I used to smoke a lot of pot yet I can remember every organization I've been a part of, why I believed in every cause I've believed in and for the most part the people I was involved with. definately senile, unless you want to think he's lying.

One doesn't get nominated for the highest court in the land if you can't recall simple facts about one's own history. Or so I'd like to think...

"We can only hope that if we come before you in court you'll be as gracious in accepting our lack of recollection of any involvement with Jack Abramoff."

Wow, talk about blatant!

This is a picture of the future. Scalito might just get confirmed and one day all these Abramoff cookies will start lining up in his court for some payback.

It wasn't really a joke, but instead a barbed suggestion to imbibinous Ted and the bumbly crew to be more collegial.

As a libertarian who hates republicans and democrats, I can't help but notice a discrepancy in the adversarial process of judicial confirmation for the supreme court.

Scalito will be confirmed because he is considered highly qualified by actual legal experts, not the bimbos on the committee.

I'm baffled by the continued use of the term "Scalito". The two are really quite different.
