Congratulations, Rafe Furst

Rafe Furst of the legendary Tiltboys won his first bracelet at the World Series of Poker in the $1500 buy-in Pot Limit Hold Em event. He joins Phil Gordon (formerly the host of Celebrity Poker Showdown) and Perry Friedman as Tiltboys with bracelets. Making it even more impressive is the field he beat. The final 20 players included John Juanda, Dewey Tomko, Randy Jensen, Can Kim Hua and several other top players. And he came to the final table with only about half the stack of the chip leader.

The Tiltboys, for those who don't know, are a group of poker players who met at Stanford and have become legends in the poker world for their hilarious antics, including crashing a woman's only tournament in drag. A great bunch of guys. They have been immortalized in the book Tales from the Tiltboys, written by the one and only Tiltchick, Kim Scheinberg. A blog post I wrote about them, where I referred to them as "Animal House with high SAT scores" ended up being used in the marketing campaign for the book, for which Kim was kind enough to send me an copy autographed by all the guys. The book is hilarious. Congrats, Rafe!

Last June, I wrote a post about the Tiltboys, a group of poker players from the bay area that have become legendary in the poker community over the last few years. Describing the group as "Animal House with high SAT scores", I wrote that the Tiltboys are a living testament to just how amusing a…
In my earlier post, I mentioned Perry Friedman as a member of the infamous Tiltboys and it reminded me that I should write something about them and get the word out about some hilarious reading you can do. If you have any interest in poker at all, I guarantee that you will enjoy reading about this…
This has the makings of a truly incredible story in the poker world. As play began today, the chip leader was none other than last year's winner, Greg (Fossilman) Raymer with just over a million chips. Should Raymer win again this year, that would almost certainly rank as the greatest achievement…
Raymer took a couple big hits late last night, losing to a rivered inside straight and taking KQ up against AQ, but he's still in the hunt with a little over $750,000 chips. With 58 players remaining, that puts him just below the average chip stack. Phil Ivey is still in the top 5 with just over $2…

Ed, I have a request. Please don't reveal the winners of any of the televised WSOP events, and especially not winner (or other details) from the Main Event. I'm sure that I'm not alone in not wanting to know the results of these events before we have a chance to see them on TV.

The list of events (with the televised ones in bold) is available at:

I would prefer not to have to give up reading your blog for the next three months :-)

Tacitus-

Well I certainly don't want you to stop reading for the next three months, but how about this: If I do reveal any winners before they air, I'll do it "below the fold" and put a warning on the front page that there are spoilers so you can know not to read it? As last year, I don't plan to reveal all of them as they happen, but there may be a few that are noteworthy either because I have some connection to them or because something happened that's worth commenting on, and I really don't want to wait until October to say anything about it.

That would be fine. Thanks!
