Desperate Santorum Supporters and the Green Party

Sen. Rick Santorum has been consistently behind in the polls in his race against Bob Casey in Pennsylvania, and it looks like they're getting really desperate. They're trying anything they can to siphon support from Casey, including helping the Green Party candidate, Carl Romanelli. Paul Kiel examined all of the political contributions given to Romanelli's campaign and found that every single one of them, except one donation from Romanelli himself, came from Republicans. And now the Pocono Record is reporting that several Santorum staffers have been helping Romanelli gather signatures for his campaign to get him on the ballot, including one who dressed up as a duck to do so. That's rather amusing.

What's the most important local political race to you this year (as a citizen, as a scientist)?... Dear god, please save me from Rick Santorum...oh wait. Is that a bit strange, to be praying for relief from Mr. RightWingChristianFundamentalist? Mr. EvolutionIsEvilNaziPropaganda? Mr.…

Due to our unfair candidacy requirements, the Green Party candidate would have needed 67,070 signatures. He got over 90,000. That must have been one hell of an effort the Republicans put forward to get him on the ballot! Third parties need 2% of the previous top vote-getter in the last statewide election. Bob Casey (for Treasurer) received 3.4 million! Major party candidates need only 2,000.

Why shouldn't Santorum support the Green Party? After all, one of his recent campaign ads showed how concerned he is with the environment. (Yeah, we believe you Rick, you twit.)
