You must remember this

Chemical & Engineering News, a publication of the American Chemical Society, has issued a news release about one of their news items. And this is a news piece about their news release about their news item. Think you can remember that? If not, you might want to read their news release about their news item, but in the meantime, here is my news piece about their news release about their news item:

In our aging society, with an increased urgency to develop new compounds that target serious illnesses like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, memory enhancement drugs are becoming a big business. But these same drugs are also creating a growing ethical controversy over their potential off-label uses, such as taking these drugs as "performance enhancers" to gain a competitive advantage in the workplace. These issues, along with the biochemistry of memory, are explored in a recent article. (ScienceDaily)

The idea that a drug that improves memory might be in the same class as a performance enhancing drug in sports seems a little strange to me. I see the analogy but I can't imagine a Barry Bonds of Trivial Pursuit. Caffeine and nicotine have CNS stimulatory effects but we don't consider coffee or cigarettes as performance enhancers like androgenic steroids (unless you want to count a cigarette's effect on your cancer screening test). What about Gingko Biloba and all those other dietary supplements we see in the local vitamin shoppe?

Anyway, I doubt these products will come along fast enough to help my chronic problem remembering names. I've decided to forget about it.

I can see a controversy erupting in "serious" games like championship chess. A good player can study his opponent's prior games and learn what they're likely to do. Some could argue that memory enhancing drugs give an extra edge by making it easier for them to memorize such things.

Did you close this thread revere? Osama visits Bush in Oz, says it's all a misunderstanding.
Can't post, message says internal server error.

It must be the g'mint monitoring as every other web site I visit is functioning fine.

Lea: I never close threads. The message means the server was down. It happens sometimes, although I got no notice it was happening now.

The workplace isn't a sanctioned sporting event. If a bricklayer wants to take muscle enhancers, or a programmer wants to take memory enhancers, WTF do I care?

Yes, I understand that it means the "ethical" workforce is now at a disadvantage, but that's their problem. If the drugs are harmful, then they're not really at a disadvantage in the long term. If they're not harmful, then society is better off for having those that take advantage of it.

A pretty sad news release. Good golly!

Absolutely correct Michael.

And . . . we should have a choice as to what we do and what we want to put into our bodies. Regardless, period.

Not with Edwards Lea. You smoke, drink or do anything that doesnt fit his vision of UHC and off with your head. You also will be forced to have an annual checkup. His candidacy is dead on arrival as a result. Now he has pissed off the gun advocates, the food is good for you advocates, Jack Daniels and one hell of a lot of us uneducated rednecks down South.

Not voting for Edwards anyway MRK.

Randy: Please give support for this claim about Edwards. Or are you just ranting about UHC again?

US fighter pilots are provided amphetamine-like stimulants - "go pills" - by in combat situations Uncle Sam. Is this a fair way to fight a war?

actually caffeine is treated very much like steroids by the international olympic committee. it is one of many banned stimulants for which athletes testing positive can (and have been) tossed out of the olympics.

st: you are correct. My son informed me of this, too. he did raise an interesting question about the therapeutic use of androgenic steroids to speed tissue repair. The borderline between therapy and perforance enhancing is a bit hazy in may places. Why aren't painkillers in football players performance enhancing, for example?

Sorry for the delay on response about UHC Revere. No he said it I think on Tuesday. I saw it on Bloomberg first. But it is as I have said before and its a takeover. You have the right to submit. Thats it.

Submission to government with your body is pushing on eugenics. Roe V. Wade I disagree with for instance, but I DO believe a woman has the right to do with her body what she thinks fit. Not government. This would submit us all to UHC and whatever the hell comes down the pike on it.

Again, I wouldnt have seen this unless ST hadnt posted on it again. Thanks ST.

Frank, those amphetamines are given to just about everyone when there is a furball underway. Not an exercise mind. Real life war scenario's. You are only allowed one dose per 72 hour period unless approved by the Flight Surgeons office. Not even he/she can authorize more than 2 in a ten day week, never back to back. The shit I can assure you would be hitting the fan in a large and noisy way if that happened and amphetamines would be the least of anyones worries. When Nicaragua invaded Honduras and the flights to deliver logistical supplies were so far away, the beans and weenie haulers took it and they also had "heavy" crews so no one was at the stick for too terribly long. Their fighter escorts suffered the most as this was in most cases a 12-30 hour flight to deliver what they needed to fight them off in Hondo.

Anybody who refers to Fox News as a possibly trustworthy news source must be deluded.
(We are also winning in Iraq, if it weren't for the
Universal Health Care proponents.)
Sorry for feeding the troll named
M.Randolph Kruger.

A-I believe it was quoted in Bloomberg first, then the WSJ, then FoxNews. I dont ever recall being called a troll when a request was made by Revere on anything. Do trot on back to you mommy and let her teach you manners.

Hillary's plan is unveiled and its a mandatory healthcare package that requires a huge subsidy to keep it going. YOU have the right to SUBMIT ONLY! So its still a takeover of goverment of healthcare and I just KNOW that government will do a better job of it. So everyone HAS to participate and they HAVE to pay for someone else's problems. This will balloon out into all the money in the system being in healthcare and then the rationing shall begin. You still will have to pay for someone elses problems. Sounds like a typical socialist/communist plan to me. We enter the collective if she is elected.

Randy: Like I have to submit to pay for this wasteful, criminal and insane war? At least I'll get something for it. Hilary's plan is flawed because it relies on insurance companies, IMO. We need single payer UHC.
