Now here's some real psychotherapy: The Cramps perform at Napa State Mental Hospital in 1978

Ya gotta love The Cramps. Their style of rockabilly is so bizarre that it's been dubbed by some as "psychobilly." And, if you happen to be unlucky enough to have to be hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital, I can't imagine a much better bit of therapy than to see The Cramps perform at your hospital.

Enjoy!

There's more:

And, while we're at it, here's a Cramps classic:

More like this

Me: Hi, I'm Dr. Pal and I'll be taking care of you here in the hospital.Patient: Where the hell is my real doctor?Me: He's at the office seeing patients. He doesn't come to the hospital anymore.Patient: Why the hell not?Me: Well, it's complicated, but it's getting harder and harder for doctors to…
I take care of my own patients in the hospital. I say that because it is not a given for internists. For a number of reasons, many having to do with time management and money, most internists utilize hospitalists, internal medicine docs who specialize in the care of hospitalized patients.…
One type of story that I've fairly frequently commented upon since the very beginning of this blog is the story of children or teens with cancer whose parents decide to pursue quackery instead of effective therapy or children with other serious diseases whose parents reject effective therapy for…
I don't watch Private Practice. I didn't like Grey's Anatomy, which, every time I caught part of it, struck me as the cheesiest sort of medical soap opera, a General Hospital transplanted to prime time. Given that Private Practice is a spinoff of Grey's Anatomy, I never saw any reason whatsoever to…

Good stuff, but I was disappointed to see there apparently aren't any live Cramps performances on YouTube of "Sunglasses After Dark", "TV Set" or "Shortnin' Bread".

Oh well.

Huge Cramps fan here; I last saw them live about 4 years ago in St. Petersburg, FL and was amazed that Lux Interior still has the kind of energy he does after all these years. A Cramps show should be on everybody's "things to do before I die" list.

Coincidentally, I currently have the Live at Napa State DVD on my Netflix queue and am sitting in front of my computer wearing my "Fiends of Dope Island" t-shirt as I type this. I think I'll go listen to "Big Beat from Badsville" now!
