I demand the sum of.....three MILLION visits! Muhahahahahaha!
Yes, I know I did that bit before--twice, even!---but I liked it so much that I wanted to do it again, at least until my readers run screaming away, annoyed that Orac, of all people, would recycle the same old joke over and over.
The horror, the horror.
Sometime overnight, this blog hit another milestone. Sometime early in the morning, Respectful Insolence⢠recorded its 3,000,000th visitor. Unfortunately, "sometime this morning" occurred while I was happily sawing logs, making me unable to record the 3,000,000th visit for posterity, as I did for my 1,000,000th visit.
That was on January 22, 2007. To reach the 1,000,000 mark took 2 years, 1 month, and 11 days. I then reached the 2,000,000 mark on November 7, 2007, meaning that o go from 1,000,000 visits to 2,000,000 visits took 9 months and 15 days. Then, to go from 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 took 8 months, 21 days. Hmmm. It looks like my long-term traffic patterns are leveling off.
Whether my traffic is indeed leveling off or not, what feels really odd is that to me the 1,000,000th visit mark was a really a big deal, a huge milestone. Then 2,000,000 passed almost unnoticed, and 3,000,000 crept up on me almost unexpectedly. I hadn't expected to reach it for a few more days, but links to this post boosted my traffic and kept it at greater than weekday levels through the weekend.
In any case, as always, I can remain incredulous that there are that many out there who are willing to read what I regularly lay down. All I can do is thank you all for reading and hope that you keep it up. In the meantime, maybe I'll take a day off...
Naaaaah!
Maybe you should finally post your thoughts on PZ Myers and crackergate. Judging from his comment threads, that'd get your traffic up in a hurry. You might get 4 million visitors within days of 3 million. (With or without assorted death threats, of course...)
Ya know, I think this is one major reason why your blog remains relevant and worthy of respect: "In any case, as always, I can remain incredulous that there are that many out there who are willing to read what I regularly lay down."
either you missed a link or you're trying to do our heads in with self-reference.
It won't work - I have a copy of Gödel, Escher, Bach and I'm not afraid to use it.
Sooo, the blog is moving into middle age eh? Well, Congratulations are in order, so here goes:
Happy Blogday to you, etc etc.
Congratulations!
... And mini-Moooooooooore.
That could mean three caring people came back one million times each.
Maybe you should send thank-you notes to John Best and J. B. Handley.
Do you get odd inbound links? I know I often link to you in comment threads at various sites, especially pertaining anti vacc talking points.
Congrats on the view count. You write some quality Insolence.
Ha haa haaugh! The plan for world domination advances. First, Pee Zed is taken in by the Crystal of Octowoo, and now Ye Orac is successfully bamboozled. Soon we control SciBlogs. Then we take New York! The world will tremble beneath our tentacles...

Congratulations, and thank you for doing what professional news reporters should have been doing all along but rarely do. Thanks to the antivaccine wingnuts who must comprise at least a small portion of your regular visitors, they come to find out that their latest con has been exposed.
cONGO rATZ!
Always enjoy the info, snark and smackdowniness of the blog.
Congrats! You deserve it, you post really good stuff about medicine with humour.
Congratulations on your milestone!
Add another million visits with a new, more evenly matched HIV/AIDS debate with Clark Baker:

It's a great blog and you're an interesting and thoughtful writer. Congratulations.
Goodonya, Orac. You're in my bookmarks. We don't have as many muddled anti-vaxers in Canada, but unfortunately we are not vaccinated against American anti-vaxer websites. Your blog is a good antidote.
I can't remember how I got here, but yours was the first blog I started reading in I think early 2006. Many links later I am a Scienceblogs junkie. And me with three degrees in liberal arts!
