I've decided to keep something of a running summary of the progress I've made on my book, my thought being that if I am able to keep a tab of what I've done I'll be more likely to work on it and better organize my ideas. Today marks the first day I'll be doing this, and I hope to update it every Sunday around this time when I have finished writing for the evening. Listed below is what I've got so far in terms of chapters/sections where I have a strong direction and organizing focus (I'm not counting the pages of more abstract rambles and notes that have accumulated to date). I've decided to keep track of things by writing down key points that will be represented in the sections like the chapter headings of older books, so hopefully I won't give too much away ahead of time (keep in mind that many of the notes are meant to be tongue-in-cheek and section titles are only temporary).
Introduction
Huxley's rejoinder to Wilberforce at Oxford - Darrow puts Bryan in the hot seat - Behe's astrological mishap - One long argument - Flickering candles in the dark - Monstrous myths - Evolutionary archetypes -
A Whale of a Tale
Koch's Missourium - The king of the seas flees to Europe - Maybe Basilosaurus, maybe not - Huxley's overlooked insight - Fast & furious fossil finds -
Slated: On a Wing and a Prayer
Noah's ravens vacation in New England - Hitchcock's Jurassic birds - A little fossil birdie told me about evolution -
For each of the sections I'm planning on adding more points; I only wrote in what has congealed on the page so far (I have strong ideas for the last section mentioned, which I plan on working on this week). I didn't get as much done tonight as I might have liked, but I'm still trying to get things done when I can find the time. Today I had a biology exam so I was a bit preoccupied for most of the day, but I'm hoping to get more completed next Sunday (if not before then).
