I got this delightful Nietzsche/Family Circus mash-up from Holbo…
Keith Olbermann is not insipid, oh no. Would that we had more fiery critics of the Bush/Cheney kleptocratic clown show.

Paul Responded to Moyers' observation that
the media have been complicit in keeping the War out of the public eye…
One of the many interesting sessions I attended at ScienceOnline 2010 (#scio10) covered the questions of trust and critical thinking.
Sitting in the audience, I couldn't help but think of a mash-up (like on Glee!) between this session the one on Fact checking.
Granted, I know I'm a nitpicky…
I was one who hammered the Bush/Cheney campaign pretty hard for not having their daughter Mary or her partner, Heather Poe, on stage with them at the Republican National Convention in New York after Bush's speech. All of the other family members were there, but not them, and it struck me as cruel…

Keith totally rules the universe! Along with Stephen Colbert. And of course, PZ. ^_^
I've already decided I want to have Olbermann's babies.
Oh my, PZ, did you know you have an anti-blog site? How interesting. You're officially famous now, however functionally retarded your opposition might be. Congratulations!
Meanwhile, Slobbermann needs to dig deep into obscure late night time slots to "prove" that he's beating O'Reilly.
Oh yes, Jason. You see, Olbermann's ratings are the ultimate indicator of the validity of his views as opposed to those of Falafel Boy. In other news, the sales figures of The National Inquirer indicate that it is the most reliable news source available.
Moron.
Is Olbermann trying to mimic Edward Murrow? If so, it's about time someone did.
Murrow is his hero.
Hey Jason. Olbermanns rating have been steadily climbing.
Fox News' have been slipping conisistently.
What, Jason's still here, vowels and all? Probably bored silly by his own website - Gawd knows I sure have been, waiting in vain for his promised dismantlings of Evil Darwinism. All we get instead are little whinings.
"...selling seeds by mail..."
:) :) :)
Man, he's good.
What, Jason's still here, vowels and all?
Could be a good thing. I might actually get a chance to whip out my internet alter-ego, The Anti-Myers, and excersize my uber troll-smiting skillz.
The only thing I have to complain about is Olbermann's example of Tokyo Rose. The person who is usually identified with her was in fact a true American.

"Iva Toguri D'Aquino died this week at age 90."
"In the heat of the 1948 presidential campaign, however, President Truman ordered the case re-investigated. She was charged with treason, convicted, and served six years before the only two witnesses against her recanted their testimony, saying they had been coached to lie. President Ford pardoned her in 1977."
Imagine that, government witnesses were coached to lie. What is the world coming to?
Bravissimo Olbermann. Thanks for the link PZ.
Don't feed trolls like Jason. It only trains them to beg. And that's so undignified.
He's had a lot of really good "Special Comments" recently. I just wish that he was on a major network station...
I don't know if that would make a difference. There seems to be a lot of evidence that network news is largely irrelevant, more or less totally discredited and not paid attention to by anyone ... well, serious.
I think there's probably a reason that shows such as JAG, House and "reality" anything are to be found on network TV, while the good stuff is living on cable.
PZ, thank you for that link!!!
I had to listen to it a few times, wonderfully said.
A voice of reason, truth, sanity and guts on the airwaves. Who would have thunk.
I don't know if that would make a difference. There seems to be a lot of evidence that network news is largely irrelevant, more or less totally discredited and not paid attention to by anyone ... well, serious.
wrong. I'd say that the vast majority of older voters rely on the nightly news to give them their view of the world.
Even my own parents (now in their late 70's) rely on the nightly news.
How in the hell do you think that the neocons have made so much traction over the last 30 years?
flyers on telephone poles, perhaps?
the nightly news is only discredited in the minds of those who have alternatives.
many don't.
I've been saying it and I'm going to keep on saying it:
Someone really should remind the people in the media and government that Orwell's book 1984 was a cautionary tale, not a how-to manual.
Damn! is he good.
I think I'll call him Olbi Wan from now on.
What are his ratings, BTW? Is there any chance his words are getting through to people who actually need to hear them?
Funny Cartoon.

Please, please spell "Nietzsche" correctly!
What Jason is trying to accomplish is get people to spell out his mangled comments. That is a bad idea, because he will then keep harrasing us.
Olbermann is doing Murrow...
And to the hilt! He's taken on the mantle of investigator and commentator in exactly the Murrow mode. He even ends with "Good night and good luck." Just to top it off, he's a brilliant wordsmith, also a Murrow trait. I'm just glad to see real journalism make an reappearance at long last.
And yeah... "selling seeds... by mail" was probably the best line any commentator has used in the past decade. Brilliant!
I wish this guy had spoken like this five years ago... and if things like the Iraq War weren't treated with kid gloves by the media during the deliberations... but I suppose that's water under the bridge.
"I wish this guy had spoken like this five years ago... "
Caledonia, I wish he had been heard two years ago. May have prevented this additional two years of abuse of power.
Power means never having to say you are sorry.
"A monkey posing as a newscaster"?? That's not very constructive. Or nice.
You're right, I would never insult an innocent monkey by comparing it to Chris Wallace.
F-ing Awesome! I honestly cannot identify a single other commentator/reporter (outside Comedy Central) that has his will to call out BS. Olbermann is certainly a guy I wish there more of in the media.
PS, I might even forgive NBC for selling to MS network, finally.
"A monkey posing as a newscaster"?? That's not very constructive. Or nice.
...but perfectly descriptive of Chris Wallace. The guy is a Faux News whore living in the shadow of his father.
NBC have a LOT to apologize for (although they have not been historically much worse than the rest of the media, I suppose), even before they sold out to MS. This is only the first step in a long road to redemption.
You're right. Olbermann owes an apology to monkeys everywhere for comparing them to the appalling Chris Wallace.
My 5 Steps to a Media For the People:
1) Revoke ABC's broadcasting license for its blatant fascist propaganda. Make them work their asses off to try and get it back.
2) Reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.
3) Dismantle the FCC beauracracy and revise the Telecommunications Acts of the past century (at least).
4) Start anti-trust litigation against the radio company and the newspaper company.
5) Protect Net Neutrality.
We already have Media for the People. The general media have gotten so bad because the "People" have such low standards that they keep watching and buying the stuff.
You don't want to free the media, you want to control and remake it in your own image.
yeah, good to see KO telling it like it is. I liked him decades ago when he was doing local-news sports in LA. Sometimes cream rises...
new "Special Message" tonight! (thursday)
Only the Daily Show and Olbermann go after Fox and the Republicans when they flat out lie.

I'm surprised that right-wing, corporate NBC News tolerates the liberal Olbermann. After all NBC is owned by General Electric (a big military contractor) and virtually all of CNBC's other commentators from Chrissy Matthews to Scarborough have shown themselves to be Bush/Republican suck-ups, although now with the war having gone so badly even these goofy right-wing pundits are having second thoughts about Bush-boy.
