In 2001 I had the chance to visit the Stubai for a couple of days at the start and in the middle of a conference in Innsbruck. It was wonderful, and I didn't kill myself. I've finally uploaded the pix; see flickr if you're interested.
The mountains are great for either solo'ing, or an easy introduction. And the huts are splendid too. And not all the people look as silly as that, though a beret is remarkably practical.
Miriam and Miranda forced me to shave the beard off, eventually.

Filthy hippie.

Lose the beard, keep the ponytail.
Technically, ce, it's "dirty hippie."
You could market that hat as a pizza cozy, or as a device for keeping the snow off frisbees!
Nice pictures, that is the way to make a conference memorable. I notice that there is too much blue ice showing on some of the glaciers for May ie.(pics 3431 and 3432). Also this is the location where blankets have been used to protect the glacier and more recently year around snow making developed.
[Not may, no, this was July. Blankets - that is interesting. I didn't visit that bit - I think that is the Dresdener hutte, just around the corner, probably visible in a few pix -W]
Don't listen to the haters, that's not a hippy look at all! Barring the beret, it's pure Trotsky...
