After seven years of using PalmOS devices, I switched last week to a HP iPAQ hx2495 (which runs Windows Mobile 5). So I'm wondering, gentle readers, what software do you have on your Pocket PC (if you have one) that you highly recommend. I'm especially interested in high quality freeware.

I've been testing out the Teclast Tbook 16 Pro 2 in 1 Tablet PC. I think the emerging term for this kind of device is "2 in 1" because if configured one way it is a small notebook computer, configured the other way, it is a standard tablet.
First, a bit of philosophy. When Apple and others…
The audio connector on my Qtek 9100 smartphone (handheld computer cum cellphone) has crapped out for the second time in two years. The warranty's lapsed, and repairing the thing would cost a third of what an equivalent machine of a current model would set me back. My 9100's battery life is flagging…
Both SteelyKid's kindergarten and the snow-day day-care program that the kids go to were closed today, which kind of threw a wrench in things. But it's also kind of fun, as I got to spend some time playing outside with SteelyKid on her play set in the snow. The "featured image" above is a cell-…
Windows takes a lot of crap from fanboys, and Apple products do the same, but while our prejudices can be well-founded it's always worth taking an honest look at the opposition. With its Windows Phone mobile OS, Microsoft has built a very fun and functional platform that in some ways exceeds the…
Dr. Lynch:
As a matter of principle, I don't use a PDA or a "Crackberry" however, I consulted with Paul, our resident I.T. guru at the office, and he suggested checking PDAStreet.com. You can peruse the downloads for Windows based PDAs, between World Cup matches of course, here.
Just so happens I have a PPC.
The best piece of software by far for it is Pocket Informant. It replaces Calendar, Tasks, Contacts. Why would you want to do that, you ask? Just try it. Look at it. It costs a little ($25), but it's well worth it. If I only got one application, this would be it.
Other things I use:
Wisebar Advance. It's a program switcher and closer. They use to give it away for free, but they've got a couple of version that are commercial now. (Here's an old version that's still free and may work.) I even built my own theme to look like the "silver" Windows XP theme.
Total Commander. (Goofy name, I know). It's a much better file browser than the built in program. It's also free! (Resco Explorer - $25 - has a much better interface and lots of additional functionality, but again, it costs).
Repligo. It's a document viewer exactly like Adobe's PDF format, execpt that it actually works well on your PDA. (Adobe's Pocket PC Acrobat is horrible). It comes with a desktop viewer, and a PPC viewer. This is an incredibly good way to save webpages for reading on your handheld.
PocketBible. (Hey, you asked what I use. :) )
I've heard that Netfront is a better web browser for the PPC. It apparently has some bugs with Flash.
I also know there are different RSS readers out there, but don't know which ones are good (My PPC doesn't have WIFI, so I don't use it for internet connectivity as much).
Also, there's a whole community of nerds where you can learn more than you ever wanted to about the devices at PocketPCThoughts.
Hope this helps.
