Even when he's really really unbearable (as he was on a lot of the Mule Variations album, he's still a musical genius. I can't think of a more significant song writer and performer in the past 30 years than Tom Waits.
Nighthawks at the Diner is top-10 album material IMO.
I'm also totally into Raindogs.
