stcynic | February 10, 2005I don't often write about sports, but since last night was one of the high holy days for a college basketball fan, I have to. For those who don't know, I am a Duke fan. No, I'm not a bandwagon fan who jumped on when they became the New York Yankees of collge basketball, I've been a Duke fan since my sophomore year in high school in the early 80s. I'm also just in general a huge college basketball fan. I think it really is the greatest sport there is. I don't think any sport can match the drama of the NCAA tournament, and no other rivalry in the sport, or any other, can come close to matching…

I'm sure by now everyone has seen the footage of what happened after the Pistons/Pacers game on Friday night, as Pacers players went up into the stands after fans who were pelting them with beers and bottles and chairs. The NBA has just announced the punishments for the players involved: Ron Artest suspended for the entire year, Stephen Jackson for 30 games, Jermaine O'Neal for 25 games, Ben Wallace for 6 games, and Anthony Johnson for 5 games. Elden Campbell, Derrick Coleman, Chauncey Billups and Reggie Miller have been suspended…
stcynic | August 31, 2004Last night was draft night for a fantasy football league that I've joined for the first time. My brother has been in this league for several years and they decided to expand this year, so I finally got a spot in it. About half the people in the league I knew socially before the draft, and the other half I didn't know at all or only by appearance, so while I was the new guy, I wasn't completely unknown. As one of the guys I knew fairly well in the group said when I walked in, "The smartass quotient just went up. And whatever you do, don't play poker with this guy." This is gonna be fun.
