Science Procastination Reading (July 15/2006)

Quick and fast today.

Pavlov's Brother by Andy Borowitz
Here's a great piece from the New Yorker - I hear it's a pretty good place to present your work.

Conversations with my mother which suggest she may secretly be a primatologist by Kevin Zeidler
When John referred me to Yankee Pot Roast, I essentially realized how many other great sites existed where literary humour is the game that is played. Anyway, YPR is also good for many hours of procastination.

Electron Band Structure In Germanium, My Ass by Lucas Kovar
Ah yes, science is tough. I believe this was a classic in graduate student work in its day. I can see a great powerpoint presentation coming out of this.

Usually, when I write a humour piece, it all begins with me in the car listening to the radio, waiting for those moments when a song comes on that I hate - loath even. For instance, something like "Truth" by Spandau Ballet is just the sort of thing that will (seriously) make my ears bleed and force…
Just saw a piece I wrote got published in the Canadian magazine, The Walrus. What's especially cool about this one, is that it has been presented in comic form, which is first for me. This is another great example of just sticking to your guns when trying to publish a piece. I must have written…
