Since polls and surveys are always some of our most popular posts, we decided to post today's gentle reminder in the form of a poll:

Before heading off to the Charleston Conference last week, I blogged about the big announcement of Pierre Lassonde's big $25 million donation to York to found the Lassonde School of Engineering.
With hundreds of seemingly worthy charities out there, how do we decide which ones to donate to? Even if we eliminate charities that aren't effective, there are still too many choices, and too little money, to donate to all of them.
This year's DonorsChoose challenge is doing pretty well, with the total standing at a bit over $2,200. Thanks to all who have donated thus far.
As you have no doubt noticed, the annual DonorsChoose fundraiser is under way, raising money to help school teachers and children.
I selected "I didn't see a project I wanted to support" because I am from the UK and much as I like US kids I think kids in other countries have a greater need. I wonder if those who thought up the challenge remembered that the Internet is a global phenomenon?
Mark,
That's certainly a valid perspective, and I encourage you to support global charities. But this is not to say there aren't dire needs here in the U.S. In my county, for example, I just learned that our high school graduation rate is a staggering 56 percent. The entire state of South Carolina has only a 53 percent graduation rate. The schools in the U.S. desperately need improvement, but due to the fact that they are under local control, different school districts have different levels of funding. Many of them are appallingly low.
