The Artist Formerly Known as Madonna

Madonna has decided that she now wants to be known as Esther. And her reason:

I was named after my mother. My mother died when she was very young, of cancer, and I wanted to attach myself to another name, she said.

This is in no way a negation of who my mother is. I wanted to attach myself to the energy of a different name.

Perhaps you should attach yourself to the "energy" of not being so full of shit. I love this little gem from the interview too:

She said Kabbalah is incredibly punk rock and anti-establishment.

Kabbalists believe in immortality. They believe that you can overcome death, overcome illness, whatever, so, its incredibly good to be a rebel, she said.

Awww, how cute. Prepackaged religious rebellion, brought to you by the same shallow and intellectually-challenged celebrities who gave us Shirley MacLaine's idiocy-for-the-ages. Strike a pose, there's nothing to it...

So I'm watching TV last night and they show a clip from an interview that Barbara Streisand did a couple weeks ago with Ellen Degeneres. And in the interview Streisand suddenly announced that four was her favorite number because, "it's the most creative number in the universe. If you have four,…
Longtime readers of this blog may remember the case of Eliza Jane Scovill. For newbies and those who might not remember, I've copiously linked to posts written by me and others. To boil it all down, three years ago a child named Eliza Jane Scovill (often called EJ) died tragically three years ago…
"I don't want knowledge. I want certainty!" --David Bowie, from Law (Earthlings on Fire) I know I've already said this once, but I have to say it again, but it's been a rather stressful week on the old blog, but I hadn't planned on writing about this particular topic again (although I will say that…
(NOTE: The videos of Robert O. Young's interview with Kim Tinkham have been removed, as I predicted in this post that they would be. Fortunately, I downloaded copies before he managed to do that. Part 6 appears to be still there--for now.) (NOTE ADDED 12/7/2010: Kim Tinkham has died of what was…

LOL you struck a nerve here Honey. She could change her name a dozen times and that wont change the low-life she is.

This is the kind of crap we have to look forward to with Britney and Christina... Man, I'm in trouble when my girls grow up.

I am reminded of the words of the late, great Joe Strummer (may he rest in peace):

They got Burton suits, ha you think it's funny
Turning rebellion into money

Never thought of it applying to Kabbalah, but there you are. I think it applies even better to the Offspring, Green Day and blink-182, but that's another story.

Funny that you mention Joe Strummer. I was watching a VH1 show last night on the top 100 hard rock bands of all time and The Clash was #19. Just a great band. After that, Strummer went to hell though. Big Audio Dynamite, his follow up band, was horrid.

This tells you how f****d up the world really is. Whether you call her Esther or Madonna, she is the same. One must be grateful that the REAL Goddess of Punk, Patti Smith, would never do this shit. On her new CD, she is as authentic as ever. WHEW!
