Prince Charles Getting Married

So I'm flipping channels and I come across a report that Prince Charles is going to marry Camilla Parker Bowles. This report came complete with its own poll, wherein 44% of viewers who responded said he should marry her, 52% said he should not, and 4% said they don't know. And it left me with one obvious question - who fucking cares? Seriously, if you're not the happy couple or a member of their family, what possible justification could you have for having an opinion about it at all? And what kind of person actually calls up a TV station to express an opinion about whether two people they don't know, who likely aren't even from the same freaking country they are, should get married? For that matter, what the hell are the 4% undecideds thinking? Why on earth would someone take the time to call up a tv station to boldly an express an opinion they don't even have? Human beings are just weird creatures.

Perhaps because I don't blog anonymously, or maybe for other reasons, I don't write that much about my personal life. That kind of writing can be self-important, insipid, and boring. But it can also have real power. A number of the anonymous bloggers here describe the intersection of the…
Today is my wedding anniversary. I've been married to the same woman for 31 years, without ever straying. Newt Gingrich has been married 3 times, divorced one wife while she was recovering from surgery, and has had extra-marital affairs. Guess who is considered the defender of traditional sexual…
You may have noticed one thing about our so-called free society: there is one group of professional, well-educated, articulate people who have been de facto forbidden to speak aloud about their views. Those people are our teachers. In particular, if they dare to express liberal, socially conscious…
Who wrote this? As someone who spends a substantial portion of his professional time teaching medical students, I can tell you that this kind of attitude-that physicians are gods, not mere mortals, and wield power over other human beings that no one dare question-is inculcated in them from the very…

On a related note, why are Americans so obsessed with our monarchy? It's barely excusable that about half of Britain finds what William eats for breakfast fascinating, but America fought a war to get shot of the inbred fuckers.

If any American's are obsessed with the monarchy it probably stems from our Disney movies. I for one have had no interest since I reached puberty.

I have never uttered the words "God save the queen." LOL

It is possible, I suppose, that a not insignificant numer of the "don't knows" were using that option as the best one to express "we don't give a damn one way or the other."

Interestingly, about a third of Britons don't care, according to one poll I heard about on the radio. So the Brits are less interested in the monarchy's private lives than Americans even though they're more (though still not very) likely to be affected by what happens.

And it left me with one obvious question - who fucking cares?

There are those Monarchists who care a great deal. Why they care is another matter. I can't figure it out. Obviously they're concerned that someone might sully the name of the British royal family by doing something unseemly.

As if that could ever happen.

Why on earth would someone take the time to call up a tv station to boldly an express an opinion they don't even have?

These have gotta be the same folk who call up the radio station when they haven't a clue to the answer of the day's trivia question.

"What's your answer?"

"I don't know."

"Thanks for calling."
