Radley Balko saw the Family Research Council's insane statement about the new HPV vaccine too. And he riffed on it pretty hard:
So to prevent theoretical additional occurences of premarital sex, Maher's okay with unnecessarily subjecting young women to fucking cancer? Holy moral rectitude, Bridget. You have to wonder, would the Family Research Council oppose distribution of an AIDS vaccine, too -- because it might spark an increase in gay sex?
Well yes, I imagine they might. Because they truly are dangerously fanatical.

Bill Ware sent me a link to this article about religious right groups opposing vaccinations against sexually transmitted diseases because it might promote sex, and as well all know, sex is evil. Most cases of cervical cancer are caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which is sexually transmitted.…
On Monday, I mentioned a survey MSNBC and Zogby conducted regarding attitudes about sex and STDs. Today on MSNBC, they have another article on the rise of STDs in America, highlighting some depressing trends. Meanwhile, in what you'd think would be across-the-board good news, a vaccine has been…
As mentioned in the comments to this post, there is a brewing controversy over upcoming guidelines outlining who should receive the "cervical cancer vaccine," a vaccine against the human papilloma virus (HPV). Briefly, the HPV vaccine is a highly effective (100% in a 2-year clinical trial) vaccine…
The FDA approved a vaccine for HPV, a virus that causes cervical cancer. Believe it or not, this is actually opposed by the religious right in one of the most twisted and destructive bits of 'thinking" I've ever seen.
In the US, for instance, religious groups are gearing up to oppose vaccination,…
"Thou shalt not kill."
How is opposing a potentially life-saving vaccine anything but accessory to murder? So much for the ten commandments, huh?
I get more curious all the time, how the various doctors, and health practioners, who are members of groups like the FRC, justify the necessary ignoring of their hippocratic oaths, in order to support these sorts of actions.
It is too weirdly hypocritical to argue in favor of ID while holding the view that certain diseases--for which there are cures, vaccines, treatment regimens(all springing from the complexification of the grand design)--are the creator's way of punishing sinners.
Geez. I wonder which one it was on the Ark that carried all these viruses with them?
Just because HPV can be sexually transmitted doesn't make it "fucking cancer." Oh wait, I guess it does.
