ID in South Carolina?

A state senator in South Carolina has submitted a bill to require that ID be taught along with evolution in state public school science classrooms. They had a conference in Greenville this weekend to promote the idea, attended by some movers and shakers in South Carolina politics. Among those who participated in the conference: Jim DeMint, the bigoted halfwit that state sent to the Senate last year. He's the one who famously said that neither gays nor unmarried women should be allowed to teach in public school. No, I'm not making that up.

Ed,

Reading through this post, one gets the impression (at least that's the impression I got) that DeMint is the one who submitted the bill. Reading the link, it's obvious that that person was Mike Fair, R-Greenville. I know you didn't intend to misslead (since you were the one who provided the link) but I think it should be made clear that Fair submitted the bill.

There's room in South Carolina for more than one dimwit. ~8o)

One more occasion in which the creationists and other forces of darkness resort to legislation to get what they can't win in the market place of ideas. In other words, this is one more time the creationists try to oppress science.

I generally just say "more than 100 times since 1925." But I get the feeling we're approaching the 200 times mark.

And then they have the gall to complain they don't get treated fairly.

I wish the supreme court would go ahead and take a case on intelligent design and get this constant barrage of creationist stuff over with.

Matthew-
Well they haven't had one to take yet. That may well change with the Dover case, which is shaping up to be the test case. It really is a great case for our side and the other side knows it. That's why the DI has kept a sizable public distance there. And the more things break down between the DI and the Thomas More Law Center, the better the chance that it will go all the way to the Supreme Court. If they lose at the district court level, they could simply not appeal the case and that would prevent it from becoming a decision that is binding outside of that judicial district. But the TMLC has shown a very reckless approach to the case and a zeal to get their name in the spotlight, so that bodes well that they will fight it through to the end.
