Ah, Home Again

Or for the first time, in this case. All the big stuff is moved and my living room is full of boxes, most of them full of books. I went out and bought a couple of bookcases and I think I'm gonna need a couple more. The one thing I don't like about my new house is the size of the kitchen. It doesn't have a separate dining room, so there's a dining room table in a kitchen that was already too small to begin with. For someone who loves to cook, this is a problem. On the good side, it has about a 400 square foot deck, and since I do a lot of my cooking outdoors, this is a good thing. I'm also going to need to get a second freezer, since I buy beef as sides and have it butchered. One of my new neighbors stopped by as I was moving stuff in and gave me the whole history of the neighborhood; he's lived here 43 years. I told him if he smells something good cooking from the deck, feel free to drop in for a bite. Obviously, my internet was installed without a hitch, but then today I decided to be really stupid and broke the table my computer was sitting on temporarily, sending computer, monitor, speakers and various other peripherals crashing to the floor. The only thing that appears to have been damaged are the speakers, and I've got another set of good computer speakers anyway. And I only drew blood once while moving, when I smacked my shin into a tab of metal on the trailer. So all in all, it's gone pretty smoothly.

As I mentioned some months ago, we are planning on selling our farm in Knox, NY (The farm is in the town of Knox, but the address is 43 Crow Hill Road, Delanson, NY - for reasons obscure to us even after a decade and a half, the mail goes two towns away) and moving to urban Schenectady. Well,"The…
Apropos Linux in Exile losing his Linux System to a Predatory Windows Install the other day (see Windows killed my laptop, again) I've been thinking about and beginning to do something about cleaning house. See below for my latest Windows mini-horror story (not as bad as LIE's). But first, a word…
Note: A cold, wet day in November seems like as good a day as any to talk about owning a wood cookstove, re-running a piece I first wrote in 2007. When people come to my house, they are often a little disappointed to see that it looks pretty much like other houses. But the wood cookstove really…
So here's what I've been through for the last few days. Two trips to Lansing (an hour away), one in a driving rainstorm and the second in a driving snowstorm. Yes, it's Michigan and we're getting snow in October. On the first trip, I bought a brand new case, motherboard and processor. I brought it…

Buying more bookcases... obviously in accordance with the law that possessions must multiply to fill all available space. (There is a law for that, right?)

Re Jim Anderson's comment:
Hey, these are books you're talking about, not mere possessions. Ed's got his priorities right - make room for books, scrimp on the kitchen. Spoken like a true biblioholic...

Congrats on your new home Ed. Hope the move wasn't too stressful. Here's to many happy days and nights with your friends and family breaking in that deck and the grill!

Congratulations on the new home. You can keep the hammock poles to put on your big deck. It's a two-person one, so get the right hammock. Hope you love the new place.

Is there room for me? I don't take up a lot of space. lol

I am pleased you bought the house honey:-)
