New Comment Policy

I'm really, really, really tired of the comment spam so I'm going to try something new. I've changed my settings to require Typekey authentication. You can get a registered Typekey account for free by clicking here. Once you have it, you can sign in when you go to leave a comment and it will allow you to post a comment once you authenticate. No one who does not have a Typekey account will be allowed to comment. This is an experiment to see if it works to cut down on the spam. If it doesn't work, I'll change it back. If you have a Typekey account and it still won't let you post a comment, please email me immediately so I can find out why.

More like this

For the past few weeks, I have allowed commenters to post using their TypeKey account. I didn't want to require commenters to register with TypeKey if they did not want to, so I still allowed comments from unregistered readers.
The new digs here are taking some getting used to. The biggest change is the comment system. I don't require TypeKey authentication, but if you use a TypeKey, you relieve me of having to manually approve comments.
I owe many people some apologies: this site has been quietly eating your comments. There are filters set up to catch and discard spam comments, and they work very well. I'm getting thousand or so junk comments a week that are not making it through to be displayed.
For those experiencing problems commenting, please be patient. I'm trying to figure out how to turn off typekey authentication, but even with all the settings saying it's not required, it still says it's required and reroutes everyone to typekey. It's becoming very frustrating.

Okay, that was pretty painless. After we win
against the ID and Religious Right, let's go after Spammers! It's good to have goals...

I just want to see if this TypeKey thingy works

The TK auto-signin is working seamlessly. Even if I had to go to TK and then come back, it would be worth it to reduce spam.

Of course, hitting spammers across the knees with a tire iron comes to mind, too.

One more time (sorry)...
