Commenting Problems?

Does anyone here who leaves comments have AOL? Lynn is having a devil of a time leaving comments using AOL and Internet Explorer (apparently Firefox doesn't work well with AOL). The problem is that she signs on using Typekey and the comment entry box shows up for just a couple seconds, then disappears. Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone have any idea how to fix it?

For those experiencing problems commenting, please be patient. I'm trying to figure out how to turn off typekey authentication, but even with all the settings saying it's not required, it still says it's required and reroutes everyone to typekey. It's becoming very frustrating. Update: Okay, the…
A list of observations I found in moving from a PC to a MAC. The default on a Mac is that the tab key only moves between text boxes. That's just silly. To fix this, go to System Preferences, click Keyboards and Mouse, and then select the appropriate radio box under the Full Keyboard Access…
A couple of "kids these days are bad at math" stories crossed my feed reader last week, first a New York Times blog post about remedial math, then a Cocktail Party Physics post on confusion about equals signs. The first was brought to my attention via a locked LiveJournal post taking the obligatory…
I very rarely read a story on the WCCO web site. That's my local news station. I don't scroll down below the headlines, and that by the way means that I don't see any of the wonderful ads that are down there. I often don't respond to facebook conversations with anything more than a sentence, but…

I had trouble with Orac's site until I cleared my old scienceblog cookies. Then I had trouble on PZ Myers' site right after that until I cleared them again. No trouble since then. I have been able to post comments using IE and Safari, which I'm using now. I have lockup problems with a later version of Firefox on the Mac, so I can't say about that browser. I am not using AOL. My problem was that my name and email didn't seem to take. The email address would disappear after I entered it, and then my comment was rejected. If you haven't tried clearing cookies, try that.

Don't use AOL. Seriously.

I have been using MSN. This past week, in order to comment, I have to sign in, then hit the "back" button on my browser before I can access the comment section. This might work for AOL ass well. HTH

oops.. I mean as well.... damn this stutter...

I use MacOS X and Netscape (never Safari) through broadband access; i have had the same similar problems signing in the last few days. It was slow now, but did logon through to this comment box. It was near impossible Sunday/ Monday.

The comments being slow over the last few days is a different problem and seems to have been fixed. That took some tweaking by the ScienceBlogs tech people. This is a very specific problem that has been ongoing.

Clearing scienceblog cookies usually fixes my problem, but it seems that I have to do it more than once. In other words, this site apparently it setting cookies that cause problems.

I had commenting problems a day or so ago that were corrected by clearing the scienceblog cookies. I believe the symptom was that it would tell me I needed to supply an email address, despite the fact that there already was one in the form field. If I clicked preview before post, the email address would disappear from the submission form, and even if I typed it in again, I got the same message upon hitting "post."

Jim Lippard - my problem was the same. I experiece it most often commenting at Respectful Insolence. I have had to delete scienceblog cookies more than once today to comment there. My problem here is that I don't stay signed in. It seems I have to click on 'sign in' every time I come back to this site, despite clicking to remember personal info.

No problems here. Mac OS X (Tiger) and Firefox.

The only comment-related thing I have to mention is the sign in procedure doesn't seem to "stick"--if I log in to comment on one post, and then click on another post, and want to comment on it, I frequently have to re-login.

Not sure if that is a Typepad issue or an issue on my machine.
