Religion. Iz so elegants.

Living in Oklahoma, I get an especially fine kick out of Ivory Tower Theists like Karen Armstrong and Terry Eagleton trying to talk about how/what religion 'really' is.

Their words bear no resemblance to the theism I interact with on a daily basis. Those 'straw-men' and 'caricatures' of theism Gnu Atheists attack? Those are real things and real stupid shit real every day theists do every day. They are not straw-men or caricatures.

Example:

Yeah, that is leik, SUPER ELAGANTS THIEZM, amaright? They dont literally believe in Satan and literally believe that Satan was planning on appearing at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City, OK, last night. They didnt literally think they were talking to Jesus, and because of their efforts, Jesus literally fought Satan and prevented said appearance?

It was all an elaborate, delicate, inspiring metaphor which teaches us valuable moral and social lessons. Why-oh-why must Gnu Atheists pretend Real Christians are really this infantile, and make fun of this behavior? Why must we challenge the intellectual veracity of theism?

Mean, nasty Gnu Atheists.

A couple of years ago, I sat down one morning, bemused by yet another bit of empty apologetics from god's sycophants, and banged out a short bit of amusement called The Courtier's Reply. It got picked up everywhere, to my surprise. I mean, seriously, I have to confess that I whipped that out in 20…
Oh, no, says Scott Walter, the Templeton Foundation has no nefarious or dishonest aims in reconciling science and religion — they bravely encourage and support alternative viewpoints to theirs. Just to show that they really do have empirical evidence that they are seriously considering the issues,…
Being an out, proud, vocal atheist, one thing I seem to have trouble communicating to people is just how very little I care about their own personal beliefs. I dont care if you love Jesus any more than I care if you love Big Macs or tap dancing or MAC lipstick. Its your life, whatever. My problem…
A group of OKC Atheists went to one of those 'Hell Houses' last night. I didnt go, but I can only assume from their summary of the event, that the parishioners of Wilmont Place Baptist Church in OKC have absolutely no social grace or even basic, common decency. You see, we have had a little 'spat'…

I guess Lucifer is liek unicorns....

PS: Does it work if you try using <3 to make the heart -- i.e. "<3"?

Exactly. If Armstrong and Feagletosh believed a word they said, themselves, they'd be preaching to these tossers.

But that, of course, is not a way to sell books and prop oneself up as the last bulwark against the tide of amoral atheists and Dawkypoo.

I love the framing in that report, "It was peaceful demonstrations outside the civic center." Implying that those inside were not peaceful. *eye roll*

I'm glad they didn't use the word "protesters" for those outside the Center. I was there, and there was not one single protester. Unless you count people holding up signs against Satan himself, which is not the same as holding up signs saying "Satanists shouldn't get to come here". There weren't any of those.

Funny - the "Creepo" guy was actually the only self-proclaimed Satanist that I saw, and he didn't even go inside. So he got interviewed by at least two TV channels, but on News9 he was "PJ Creepers". Bully on him for his 2 minutes of fame.
