I recently wrote about the erv evidence for evolution on my blog, Hume's Apprentice. The basic premise behind the blog series is that it is possible to demonstrate, logically and objectively, that the theory of common descent is true with nearly 100% certainty using Bayes' theorem. When you have the time could you explain your by-line. That is, what is GAG, POL and ENV? I know something of ERVs but that's all.
Just to fill you in. I am a Biology teacher from South Australia and I like to talk about ERVs when we discuss DN, mutations and evolution in class.

Abbie- do you remember the periodic table of swearing- how I predicted Stasi like tactics? What did you think when they brought you the pornalysis dossier?

What would you have thought if the name were Mikhail Bulgakov, Solzhenitsin, Dostoyevski, or Zora Neal Hurston?

I argue with creationists (for my sins). ERVs are my favourite subject, but I'm not sure of my ground here. Are there placental mammals that do not use env-derived syncytins? If so, can you give examples?

I have created an FAQ on retroviruses for the general reader. I would be most grateful if you could provide me with any feedback/corrections/suggestions.
