I have been working from home today (mostly grading papers) and watching the World Baseball Classic. This is the first time I've been able to watch a complete game -- the previous games were in Tokyo, which meant they were shown live in the middle of the night. (Note to NBC, you can show sporting events in another time zone live.) Today's game between Venezuela and the Dominican Republic has the energy of a late season game between two teams in the middle of a pennant race. The Venezuelan team is staying with the favored Dominicans. I also plan to watch the USA-Mexico game, and I wanted to watch the other two games today. Sadly, only ESPN Deportes is broadcasting all of the games, and I don't exactly live in a market that demands Spanish language broadcasting. I wonder how many viewers of ESPN Deportes care about Canada vs. South Africa and Australia vs. Italy.
Note added in press: Big Pappi and Adrian Beltre carried the Dominican team today.

Good god check out the Dominican lineup: Alfonso Soriano leading off, followed by MVPs Miguel Tejada and Albert Pujols and sluggers Ortiz, Moises Alou and Beltre. And that's with Vladimir Guerrero and Manny Ramirez sitting out. Unreal. With all these Hispanic guys on the field at once it's like a talented version of the New York Mets.
