So I'm off to the Mother Country on Saturday my time. Anyone in London who wants to meet for dinner on Sunday or Monday nights, drop me an email before I fly off...

In comments to the Sagan post, Niall asked about how I spend my time. This is about to change, as today is the last day of my class for the fall term, then we have an extended break, but it's probably interesting in a life-in-academia way to put up my schedule at the moment: Monday, Wednesday,…
It's been a bit nuts at work this week so far (or was it last week?) so pardon the lack of blogging. We had a user conference for the past few days and it's been off a bit. I've been working on a couple posts about acid mine drainage which I hope to have up in the next couple of days. I also have a…
Jen, over at BlagHag, has recently started graduate school in Seattle. Apparently, despite being in a hippie liberal city, Seattles atheist meet-up has a lot of the same problems as other atheist groups-- small, few female members, and too many of the people who do show up are assholes. Ive dealt…
As I'm transitioning away from an academic/personal life of long-distance commuting, I thought this would be a good time (or perhaps the last good time?) to share some of my tips for how to help one's marriage/partnership survive two academic careers in two cities. Of course, I only have this last…

John,

If you are in the Irish Bar (Dubai Airport) between 1am and 7am 20th July 2007 I'll buy you a pint if I recognise you.

I'll be the big (tall & wide) short haired bearded guy with a bald spot at the bar :o)

Great! Send the check for the air fare and hotel stay by Fed Ex and I'll be there to greet you. Heck! I'll even carry your bags ... to where the nearest porter is.

Keep in mind still playing local, made up by me rules: Bolsa Chica Wetlands.

I miswrote my move and not Ian but Bob set up a loop which means you have to repeat your previous move and at the same time it cancels all other penalties!

But if you're going to Totteridge and Whetstone, I#m going to a place close to John's heart - or at least its present physical manifestation:

Gloucester Road

Isn't Gloucester Road a waterway at the moment?

Anyway, I think the best response is

Westbourne Park.

Probably because it's being washed away too.

If we are to pursue the Aussie Silver Back on his peregrinations through The Sceptred Isle then it's the Great Western to Exeter so it has to be,

Victoria

The Great Western stopped at Taunton, so we had to get on a Virgin train to Exeter, and a three hour trip turned nicely into a six hour trip.

Bring back British Rail, I say...
