Jewel & her cousin

Maybe they both write crappy poetry. And no, they don't look anything alike to me.

I might see something alike, not sure. I do think that Q'Orianka is much more attractive, though, for whatever that's worth.

Not much similarity -- the shape of their eyes is almost the same, but their forehead, cheekbones, chin, nose are all different.

I don't see anything. Reminds me though of a girlfriend & her sis from high school. The mom was Persian, dad was Anglo-American. My gf looked fully Persian, but her sis was pale w/ blue or green eyes & pale, wispy blond hair. You've mentioned this isn't a shock to South Asians since you're used to such discrete jumbling w/in families, and not the homogenized soup us light-skinned folk expect to result. Guess that makes you all less susceptible to such cognitive biases.

Wonder if that's true for folks from the metro areas of NYC, Boston, or Chicago, where there's a lot of Irish-Italian mixing. Certainly if you're a member of such a family, you couldn't but notice that you were tall, pale, and redheaded, while sis was short, tawny, and brunette (w/ a J-Lo booty). But even outsiders who'd been exposed to the members of such families might grow used to the discrete nature of heredity.

I thought you might be interested in this bit of a story about Kilcher faces.

I know for a fact that the rather large Kilcher clan has a strong familial facial look. For a few years I lived in the same small Alaskan fishing village where the family's patriarch, Ule, settled and most of them lived. I probably saw Jewel several times when she was 2- to 4-years-old, or so, part of a gaggle of blonde-haired Kilcher kids towed into town, from various homesteads, with one of Ule's adult kids, who were their parents and around my age.

For those who are curious about what the Kilcher face looks like, I refer you Time Magazine. Jewel's face was the cover of Time in July 1997, if my memory is correct. There she looks "exactly like a Kilcher". There is no mistaking her genes.

I've read some of the PR material about Jewel in various mass media over time. She repeatedly makes a point of referring to where she lived in Alaska as a touchstone. I do also. The place we lived briefly, Kachemak Bay, is still the most beautiful and spectacular landscape I've ever seen.

It imprints on virtually everyone who comes across it. Many never leave, physically, but especially emotionally. I'm one of those fortunate few.

I think they both have the same overall face shape, and I've seen other Jewel images where she seems to have fairly prominent cheekbones.

The main differences between them IMO, are skin tone and chin size.

BTW, I think Jewel is a total hottie ;)

The fact that my wife, who I thought looked like Jewel the first time I met her, has Native American ancestry, makes this revelation somehow proper.

Not really Randy, since they are related by Swiss blood and not Native.

The resemblence between Q'Orianka's mother Saskia, who is Jewel's first cousin, is much more apparent.

I am a friend of the family. This is the connection: Jewel's father and Saskia Kilcher's mother are siblings. Therefore, Jewel and Saskia are are cousin's. Q'orianka is Saskia's daughter therefore, making them 2nd cousins. Q'orianka is 1/2 Swiss from Saskia and 1/2 Peruvian from her father. Seeing as how Q'orianka is a 2nd cousin with 1/2 Peruvian heritage....it makes no sense that she and Jewel would look too much alike.
