Barbara Forrest over @ Accidental Blogger

Over at Accidental Blogger Ruchira Paul has a profile up of Barbara Forrest, philosopher and science activist. I've long admired her coauthor Paul Gross, who I've had the pleasure of being mildly acquainted with on internet mailing lists, and I props to Dr. Forrest as well. I don't talk much about Creationism here because I don't feel it is part of my brief, but I'm very glad that there are people out there who are active on that battle front.

The term “War on Science” comes from multiple sources, one being Chris Mooney’s book “The Republican War on Science” (see below) and another, the made up “War on Christmas,” a term attributed to Bill O’Really. Throw in a little “Culture War” rhetoric and I think we have a good basis for the origin…

One of the advantages of living in a blue state like Maine (and the hyper-blue municipality that is Portland) is that there is little danger of creationism creeping it's way in. The last gubernatorial race partially restored by faith in humanity, as IDC fundamentalist Chandler Woodcock was roundly dismissed as a nutball for wanting creationism taught, and the pile caused him to put it at arms length (he still lost, though ineffectual Democrat John Baldacci won, so you can't win them all I guess).

Still, Creationisms Trojan Horse is a good read, and a must read for opponents of IDC.
