Hope all my fellow Americans out there had a good Independence Day. I was away on a trip, and I thought I'd share a few photos.

In 1999, during my intern year, Hurricane Mitch struck Central America. As stated below, I wanted to become involved. The program director of my residency was kind enough to view this as a worthwhile educational experience. This is my diary from the trip. Part IV is here.

As I write this, the special awards ceremony for ISEF 2008 is wrapping up. Tonight, awards are being given by professional organizations, corporations, colleges and universities, and branches of government. Almost all of the major professional societies are represented, from the American…
I mentioned August would be a hellish travel month. Beginning August 2nd, I drove to Chicago for YearlyKos, back to Iowa and grabbed the kids and dogs, headed to Ohio to visit family (including an almost-9-months-pregnant sister and her 18-month old son), headed out to Maryland/DC/Delaware for an…

SteelyKid and The Pip like the bunk beds in the stateroom.

Okay. I give up! Where the heck did you go - this is quite an eclectic series of photo's!?
I recognize one of the the Embarcadero builsings in San Francisco in one of the photos.
at least that's what I think it is. I may be another building somewhere else that just looks like the Embarcadero center.
Ok, I'll play.
The first image could be Mt. Shasta. If the buildings are in San Francisco, then I posit that 'Zib drove down from southern Oregon to the Bay Area. The piece of land in the ocean looks like a California at-or-south-of-San Francisco bird island. It may not actually be an island since the picture was taken from above. Following thte hypothesis re the trip, I think that is along route 1 between Carmel and San Simeon. The last panel might be fireworks, but I'm betting some sort of jelly fish. Either Z does night diving, or this could be from the Monterey Aquarium.
close mike. they were fireworks (i used that setting on the dig. camera). also, marin headlands.
