Photosynthesis Video

Photosynthesis; This is how the British to it (teaching, not photosynthesis).

I'm not sure why he says we don't know how photosynthesis works.

Look at how well behaved the students are. You can tell this is not America, even without noticing that the guy talks funny.

The graph on the rate of photosynthesis is idealized. This is not the graph for all plants. This won't work for your Alaskan Peas, for instance.

Notice the maximum value for effect on increased CO2. I wonder what ever happened to the old chap..

[This past fall, I taught a course at Emerson College called "Plagues and Pandemics." I'll be periodically posting the contents of my lectures and my experiences as a first time college instructor] In my first lecture, I used Powerpoint (well, technically Keynote), but I personally like chalk-talks…
Today's St. Petersburg Times has a letter from Bill Foster. Foster was the outgoing city councilman who wrote a letter to the school board opposing the teaching of modern Evolutionary Biology, or at least, the teaching of modern science without wrapping it in a medieval blanket of Christian…
Good news! While I still get flooded with email every time Bill Donohue puts my address in a press release, I'm getting 90% fewer death threats! I think that maybe the example of Ms Kroll and her trollish husband has made people thinking twice before explicitly spelling out their gruesome plans, so…
Science Blogs is celebrating the beginning of the new school year with a series of 101-style posts, introducing the basics of a concept. I've got a couple of basics posts I'd like to do, but this one seemed particularly apt to me. I'm a homeschooler, but it isn't only homeschoolers that struggle…

I'm not sure why he says we don't know how photosynthesis works.
Because we actually don't. For example we still don't know the actual chemistry in the manganese complex where water oxidaton and oxygen evolution takes place. We don't even know the exact constitution of the complex.
Of course, we have some good understanding what happens, just not enough to give a full step by step description (it takes 4 photons to create one O2) or to rebuild the process exactly as it happens in plants/bacteria.

This is not a real school, isn't it? It's scary.
