Global warming: It really is real.

Have you heard that the world is now cooling instead of warming? You may have seen some news reports on the Internet or heard about it from a provocative new book.

Only one problem: It's not true, according to several independent statisticians who analyzed temperature data for The Associated Press.

Details here.

By now, I'd expect the authors of Superfreakonomics are having mixed feelings about their new book. On the one hand, they're making good money as the book enjoys healthy sales. On the other, just about every actual expert in the field to which Chapter 5 is devoted -- climate change -- has savaged…
There is a slightly weird AP news article by Seth Borenstein which purports to show that In a blind test, the AP gave temperature data to four independent statisticians and asked them to look for trends, without telling them what the numbers represented. The experts found no true temperature…
The Australian continues to display its contempt for science, scientists and the scientific method. They've published this piece of AGW denial by David Evans. Last time I looked at Evans he was saying that new evidence since 1999 had changed his mind about global warming, with this new evidence…
Climatologists have long puzzled over what caused an abrupt drop in global average temperatures in 1945. To explain the anomaly, which, unlike most other similar rapid falls, is not associated with a volcanic eruption, most invoke an increase in airborne industrial activity following the end of the…

Hmmm ... sounds good, but what was the upward trend?

It would appear that many deniers may be paid to "manufacture doubt" as the tobacco industry likes to call it. It's either that or there are a hell of a lot of people who don't understand even the most basic statistics who claim to be an expert and that global warming is a farce. Either way, one of the favorite ploys is to pick out a handful of data points from a huge volume of data and to claim that those few points indicate that their absurd claims are true. "The earth has been cooling since 1998" is one such load of nonsense. Another one is the "studies prove that the solar cycle controls the climate".

Here is a work that shows what caused it. All of the global average temperatures for the entire 20th century and until the present are readily calculated with no consideration whatsoever needed of changes to the level of atmospheric carbon dioxide or any other greenhouse gas. The details are in a new paper at http://climaterealists.com/index.php?tid=145&linkbox=true . There is no Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) (and therefore no human caused climate change) from added atmospheric carbon dioxide. Invoking Cap and Trade would be an egregious mistake that would have no effect on climate but would further cripple the economy.

A little report doesn't prove anything. Deniers don't deny that there is a general upward trend. What we do believe is that the "models" didn't predict these cooler temperatures we're experiencing. Remember the "run-away" heat we're supposed to be experiencing right now? Remember in the late 1980's when scientists were saying, "there isn't much time left..." And, we're still looking for real proof that CO2 has a direct effect on our climate in ways that people say they do - you know, the doomsters.

People are waking up to the fact that global warming threats have been with us for quite some time. For more info, look here: http://www.businessandmedia.org/specialreports/2006/fireandice/fireandi…

This is a very interesting article about how what ever is popular, people are going to believe in.

What we do believe is that the "models" didn't predict these cooler temperatures we're experiencing.

Well, that statement is simply scientifically incorrect.

Dan, that's a graph of sunspots. WTF?

What is your motivation for ignoring the science? What are you getting out of it? Or are you just a good little Republican who does what you are told. And if so, have you ever asked yourself what THEY are getting out of it?

Well, we Texans are doing our part. Here in Austin we had the hottest summer on record. We also have a carbon footprint larger than some countries you have heard of.

oh yeah? WARMING???? then why is it 54°F outside right now? huh. does that sound WARM to you?????

and don't go on about seasons!!!! all those "seasonist" crackpots saying it is some sort of yearly fluctuation!!! all i know is that a month ago it was 70°F and now it is 54°F.

clearly globle cooLING!@!!

OMG!!!! There's a ten year trend! LOL In the course of dozens of climate cycles where the earth has swung from mostly tropical to nearly a giant snowball, a ten year trend IS SO IMPORTANT. :rolls eyes:

Well, I get to gloat even sooner than I thought. I was giving it couple more years before the ill advised label "global warming" totally screwed up 40 years of environmental progress because Joe Public doesn't give a damn about "trends" or "statistics" or "analysis of data" but only cares about cute bears being in danger and what his electricity bill is. So stupid people got the public all stressed out about how the world was going to get hotter and hotter until we all evaporated or something. But, surprise surprise, this climate shift is behaving JUST like all the others with radical changes in direction and extremes. So now Mr Public feels like he has been lied to . . . and he's resentful. And he thinks "f*** green".

Thanks . . I tried to warn you all nearly 20 years ago but would you listen to me? No. Thanks a lot.
