Rage rising...rising...rising...

At some point, there will be a loud noise, a sudden lurch (Bora's departure may even be it), and everyone will abruptly turn and run screaming for the lifeboats. I personally may trample a few women and children to get a good seat. There may be riots and recriminations. Shots will fired, flares will go off, people will be thrown overboard, boilers will explode.

Today was my first day teaching recitation for the summer session Physics 202, the algebra-based second half of intro physics. Physics 202 focuses mostly on electricity and magnetism, where the first course (Physics 201) was mostly classical mechanics.
One of the reasons that the axiom of choice is so important, and so necessary, is that there are a lot of important facts from other fields of mathematics that we'd like to define in terms of set theory, but which either require the AC, or are equivalent to the AC.
Last night was the airing of the 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. I gave my thoughts on last year's ceremony and here are my thoughts on this year's festivities.

It seems the need to be melodramatic and imagine they have been offended has become a need to do act out a tragedy by dissolving a community. The behavior of Sb is just an excuse to be dramatic, have a public rending of clothing to demonstrate outrage, to stage a sad soliloquy that ends in jump from the cliff in a fit of shame and feigned offense and outrage.
