This happened not far from me:

Don't you just love food palaces? Round these parts in Philly, we have several new Wegmans stores to choose from, and of course Whole Foods. A new Whole Foods opened not far from where I live that includes a little bar - you can have a beer or glass of wine and a little something to eat if you…
Illegal aliens are swarming across the border of Michele Bachmann's district. Which is on the border of .... nothing, actually, it is a 'landlocked' district.
Uffda. Take a breather. OK, ready? Let's keep going a minute more...
Can you handle more? Probably not, and that's OK. Nobody…
We get little earthquakes all the time in OK. This is my usual reaction:
Department mates running into the hallway: OMFG WHAT WAS THAT???
Me: Wat?
Department mates: HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AN EARTHQUAKE!!
Me: ... I didnt feel anything... ... ... Thats what she said.
But this Saturday we had the…
Joe Biden recently made some remarks in the Wall Street Journal in which he discussed some of Russia's concerns, and he made this casual remark.
"I can see Putin sitting in Moscow saying, 'Jesus Christ, Iran gets the nuclear weapon, who goes first?' Moscow, not Washington."
It's not such an…
The local news site adds this to their link to the video: "We have to warn you that there is some vulgar language at the end of the video right after the crane crashes."

I don't swear much. It's not that I find it morally objectionable, I just like to reserve it for when I really need it. If you use it like punctuation, you have nothing to say when you drop a crane on someone's garage.
Levers! How the @#&% do they work!?
Yeah. Doesn't anybody know how to calculate a moment arm?
I think he hit the chimney.
Looks like that crane operator really screwed up. Good thing no one was hurt.
I was on site for a landscape project that included a pool (bigger than this) that had to be craned into place. Certainly wondered if such a problem wsa likely. Luckily, the pool installer ordered the right sized crane. This guy didn't.
The pools don't weigh much, but it really seemed to me that the arm was low.
After it cleared the chimney, I became aware of how far the arm and pool were from the crane and anticipated the end result. Someone didn't do their math correctly! I hope his insurance was paid up!
In other news, local housing starts are up....
"What happened?"
"I don't know!"
Do those things have load sensors on the jacks? I'd think it would be relatively easy to monitor and see if the jacks are about to become a fulcrum.
While it was happening-two things occured to me:
1. He's overextending...
2. Where's the counterweight on the nose?
Lee:
"Do those things have load sensors on the jacks? I'd think it would be relatively easy to monitor and see if the jacks are about to become a fulcrum."
The sensors do exist-but rely on the operator to set configuration info-like "yes, I have a counterweight on the nose..."
Oops...
