Netflix Breaks Self, Annoys Everyone

Even though some time back Netflix fixed their interface exactly as I wanted them to do it, and within hours after I asked them to (see this), they have now developed a new web interface to their site that many people appear to hate. I tend to agree with the haters.

What I found is that when I view it with Google Chrome the site breaks in about a half second and I can't see a thing. Then, when it comes back it looks much like their on-Roku inteface, which is OK, but requires mouse movements that I find unnatural and annoying. And, mostly, impossible to use. At this point, it would almost be easier to re-up with Blockbuster and physically go there to see and rent the movies. It would take less time to do that than to navigate through this new Netflix interface.

This is the first in a series about using the "command line" in Linux. It is also about knowing when to use a gui instead. But before going into any of that we need to understand what is meant by a "command line" application. You'll find that as we explore that idea, a lot of things that are not…
I'm going to take the unusual move and post, below, and almost complete cut and paste of a piece of corporate informational mail from Netflix. If you are Netflix user, you've already got this in your email box, most likely. Before I do this, I want to explain why. I'm not shy about critiquing…
What if you went to drive to work one day and the highway on ramp was closed, and a big sign across it said "Highway is closed. Sorry for the inconvenience." Well, you would find your way to a different highway entrance. But say that one was closed as well. Then, you check around and find out that…
A lot of things are broken because we fixed them. Somewhere out there is a web site that specializes in listing these things; Please let me know if you have a link, I can't find it at the moment. There is a web site that specializes in these things called "This is Broken" run by Set Godin (see…

I haven't been having any issues with it, running Chrome on Vista. It even seems to render a bit quicker. Go figure.

Well, they haven't screwed up the Canadian version yet, but all we have here is the "Instant Streaming"... no lists or real personalization possible for them to screw up.

Netflix who? Oh, right, the company that tied its "instant viewing" to every plan (so even if they won't let you use it, you can't avoid paying for it) and to a now-abandonware bit of Microsoft-only software that took two years to support Mac and *still* doesn't support Linux. Forget them. Go with Hulu and/or Amazon. Unlike Netflix, they *do* want Linux users' money. :)

'Linux user's money'
Have to admit, you got a laugh out of me with that one
