Just in time for Easter Sunday! Here is an except from the Vatican Easter speech (translated into English, of course). He does forget to mention the hundreds of thousands of children who were raped in His Holy Name (amen), but he does manage to talk about nearly everyone else in the world.

I have a whole slew of orchid photographs that I might set free upon the world someday. This image captures a rather common flower, but I still like it because, even though it's not perfect, it almost seems like abstract art.
The 22nd edition of the Carnival of Evolution has been published at Beetles in the Bush, and it includes several pieces that I wrote! So be sure to go there, read, enjoy and -- most important of all -- provide feedback to the blog writers who spend their precious free time reading and writing about cool science so we all can read about it!

This amusing little video shows a kitty stalking the photographer as she peeks around a corner in the room with her camera. In nearly every shot we see, the cat is not moving, but is magically closer to the photographer than in the previous shot. The last few seconds are especially amusing.

Another Housefly, a creation by Arthur Ganson. Ganson writes: To be honest, I never really liked Housefly because it made too much noise! This is a rethinking of the original mechanism that takes into account more aspects of the fly. The linkage arms which move the base of the spring-wire purposely mimic the front legs of the housefly as she cleans herself.
Here's the original housefly machine that Ganson was improving upon:

One of the things that I cannot seem to ever get used to in Germany is the Brot (bread). Especially when compared to American-made bread, which is universally horrible and often disgusting, German Brot is simply amazing. I have spent these past few months trying to identify which type of Brot is my favorite, but they all are so wonderful that my favorite is usually the one I am eating at that very moment.
