It's the Memorial Day weekend, and many of you will be taking off for various recreational activities over the three day weekend. Sadly, I'll be on call and thus working the entire weekend, having drawn the short straw for this particular holiday.
However, to console myself with the fact that it could be worse, I'll remember that I could be spending time at what is probably the worst amusement park in the world.

Believe it or not, sometimes even Orac has a life. I know, I know, between the ridiculously logorrheic blogging here and other online activities, coupled with even more ridiculous long hours working at his day job, it's hard to conceive. However, my wife and I had a whole passel of relatives over,…
My American readers don't need this reminder, but, because I'm continually humbled at how many international readers I have, I thought I'd just mention it anyway. We here in the States are in the middle of a three day holiday weekend for Memorial Day on Monday. As a result, I'm taking it (mostly)…
You may have noticed that I haven't commented much on Michael Behe's recent book, The Edge of Evolution, other than to bemoan its presence in the Evolution section of the University of Chicago Barnes & Noble. I have, however, read with some amusement some of the reviews. The most recent is one…
A couple of administrative notes before I head off to a weekend involving friends, arboretum plant sales, weeding the asparagus patch, planting an alphabet garden and trying to decide if we really do need a pet sheep.

Another favorite spot is to park you car, even on the highway or exit ramps, near the local airport to watch planes take off and land...
Depressing. It's as bad as the movie-themed park we went to in Taipei a couple years back. I think that we were the only paying customers that week. On the other hand there is a park on the way between Beijing and the great wall that I heard had input from Disney that wasn't half bad (I went on on a local tour bus with a Chinese colleague and got a different view from the usual tourist fare. I guess the driver was paid to stop there)
Mark Frank: I think your link wins the BEST Theme Park In The World Award... The hell with Disney or Hovind!
