Get on the Grid

While I attend (and cover for SEED) the North American Summit of the The Climate Project -- a reunion of members of Al Gore's army of climate change slide show presenters -- this weekend, I won't be posting much. Not that I ever post much on the weekends. Meanwhile, however, there's a new mini-collective blog at ScienceBlogs, to which I am contributing. The Energy Grid blog tackles issues "revolving around issues of energy security and environmental sustainability." Royal Dutch Shell is paying us to write weekly responses to questions posed by a moderator, one Jonas Meckling, a research fellow with the Energy Technology Innovation Policy group at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard University.

It just started this week, with my first post. As with last year's energy blog, neither SEED nor Shell will exercise any editorial control. And given Shell's recent withdrawal from renewable energy research, you can bet that particular multinational won't be immune from criticism.

And for those of you in or around Boston, Mass, this coming Tuesday, SEED and Shell are hosting a public forum on the same subject starting at 6 p.m. at Battery Wharf.

Because the three-dimensional world has had me in a headlock (and a heat-wave), I'm tardy in passing on the news that ScienceBlogs is hosting a new blog, Next Generation Energy, that is slated to run from July 9 to October 9. On this blog, Seed editors, ScienceBlogs bloggers, and outside experts…
Not everyone here at ScienceBlogs is happy about a new project appearing here, under the auspices of SEED, and underwritten by none other than Shell. Yes, that's right, the big bad petro products transnational. "The Next Generation of Energy Ideas" is another blog collective, featuring some…
SEED magazine has just published my report on the 2009 Summit of The Climate Project, Al Gore's effort to spread the word on the climate crisis with the help of 2,500 volunteers trained to present his "Inconvenient Truth" slide show. Here's the intro: Polling data leading up to last week's summit…
