If you don't see Expelled, Al-Qaeda wins

The release of the horrid film Expelled slithers ever closer, and it seems that the people behind the film are trying to surround the film with a sense of patriotism to get their target audience (fundamentalist Christians) to go see the film in droves. Indeed, they want everyone to start saying that the film will come out on "Freedom Friday" and start hounding local theaters to carry Ben Stein's box-office bomb. There's no indication yet whether any theaters near me are going to carry it, but even if they do I suspect that the propaganda piece is going to have a short, pitiful run.

More like this

The review in answeresingenesis was pretty crappy. They stop short of saying that it was a terrible movie. There wasn't even a statement indicating "Go an see this movie for Jesus."

I think Answers In Genesis didn't like it, because they forgot to put saddles on the dinosaurs. Plus, the movie producers forgot to teach the controversy: English or Western Saddles?

Despite Ken Ham's fawningly kind words about Stein, this film doesn't push the universe-in-six-days-6,000-years-ago angle, it pushes the DAWRWINISTZ R TEH NAZI! angle.

I guess if the producers can throw "Hitler" in the mix, opponents can throw "Al Qaeda" in there, too. One bad frame deserves another. Fair enough.

certamen ad nauseum

Greg; The title of the short entry was a joke, based upon the angle the Expelled crew keeps pushing (i.e. that this is an issue of American freedom).

To even let you in on my thought process, the second I heard that the release date was going to be called "Freedom Friday" I thought of a particular episode of the Simpsons (Season 15, episode 19, "Simple Simpson") where Homer is watching a country musician sing about how patriotic he is, ended with the line "If you don't buy my record, then Al-Qaeda wins."

I didn't pick the "Scientists are enemies of American freedom," angle, I just poked fun at it.

Are the serving Freedom Fries in the theater?

That's exactly what I got out of it, Brian! That was my first thought when I read the title.

If it's Freedom Friday, and they serve Freedom Fries, does this mean the entire French nation can't see this movie? And if this is an issue of American freedom, will the producers refrain from showing it in any other country? Because I'd be fine with that.
