If ever there was a documentary that made me want to be a paleontologist when I grew up, it was the Christopher Reeve-hosted Dinosaur! The stop-motion animation by Phil Tippet still looks good, but even though things have changed a bit since the show came out, it's still fun to watch and provides a good personal follow-up to Friday's open thread. Enjoy!

My first impression of what a dinosaur was conjured up images of creatures impossibly big and toothy, real-life monsters with names that sounded like they could very well have been out of mythology rather than science. I didn't know that they…
I loved all the Gary Owens & Eric Boardman dinosaur documentaries (see here, here, and here) when I was a kid, but I think my most favorite was their special on prehistoric mammals. Called "Prehistoric World," the show took a look at the Page Museum in LA and even featured a bit on Dougal Dixon…

HELL YES.
Can anyone identify the film that has the guy shooting at a ceratopsian with a laser (penultimae video)? Cheers.
Dave; That movie is Planet of Dinosaurs, which was actually just re-issued on DVD. It's about as cheesy as they come, but the stop-motion dinosaurs aren't too bad.
Thanks for that Brian, I have long wanted to know *only* becuase aged about 8 I saw this series in the UK and remember than tiny snippet of footage simply bacuse I had never seen it! I had alswasy wondered and now I know I'll have to try and hunt it down (may not be too easy in China or the UK though!).
Cheers.
Thank you for posting the Youtube clips of Dinosaurs! I watched this show almost every day when I was a child, and I hold it responsible for my continuing fascination with dinosaurs, Mesozoic birds, and ancient life in general. It is very good to see it again.
I loved that show! One of the best classics ever!
Despite my parents' comparative openness, I still harbored a large number of the usual misconceptions. The funniest one was that because I was a terrifically precocious reader, by 10, I had read literally
than their dogmatic behaviour and the misconduct of many supporters of global warming quite fast to correct measured temperatures for the more than legitimate critics.
I wish you continued success
